Dear CVOA Members,
Welcome to 2015!
The year 2015... just happens to be a special year for CVOA. It is our 15th anniversary! Fifteen years ago - Y2K - when the world was holding its breath to see if computers (thus the world) would come screeching to a halt, CVOA was born. The founding members of CVOA were plotting and planning a club based on the principles of protecting our outdoor heritage and (being the fun-loving group they are), creating outdoor recreational activities. Their vision and love of the outdoors has culminated into the amazing club we now have. The pulse of CVOA is stronger than ever.
We like to call our activities "adventures...." because that's what they are. They go beyond the ordinary. As I think back at all I have done with this club, there have been a lot of "firsts." The first time up Hamlin peak, my first snow shoe adventure into Baxter State Park in January, my first hike along the Bold Coast, first time cross country skiing in beautiful Mt. Megantic Park. Climbing peaks, careening down snowy hills, kayaking, canoeing, and getting lost, while all the time, finding friendship, compassion and camaraderie among my friends that bind together through the common thread of loving what we do and appreciating all the beauty and challenges of mother nature.
Fifteen years.... My time with CVOA has been at least half of that time. It all started when I heard there was this local club that put on a great "winter social." Being
new to the area, I went. I danced my way into CVOA that night with great music, great food, lots of laughter and let's not forget the blinking lights of glasses and rings! Some time after that, I was having a friendly chat with some board members at a local pub and by the end of the evening; I was the next CVOA secretary! Still not sure how that happened! Since then, I have been secretary, vice president and now
president. I am happy to give back to a club that gives so much - both to me personally and as an organization that truly is dedicated to preserving this land that is ours to enjoy. ...and having fun doing it!
A BIG thank you goes out to each and every one of you who has dedicated time and
effort to our amazing club. Without your efforts, this club would not be able to do all that it does - from behind the scenes work to trip leaders, from cookie swaps to the range, from donating to doing - you keep this club alive!
Please consider becoming involved as a volunteer. It is a great way to have fun, create friendships and give back to this active, vibrant club. It is the heartbeat of many that creates the strong pulse of the Carrabassett Valley Outdoor Association.
Looking forward to seeing you all on our next adventure...
Sincerely,
Sandy Jamison
CVOA President
