15 Easy Indoor Activities to Keep Kids Busy

When the weather isn't cooperating (think  rain, snow or even extreme heat!) and you have no option but to stay inside, there's a good chance the kiddos might get restless and a little bored.  Keep everyone busy indoors with these 15 fun activity suggestions.

1. Play a favorite board game or do a puzzle.
2. Make a fun recipe (We have an easy suggestion, below!).
3. Do  yoga with the kids in the living room.
4. Play Simon Says.
5. Make an indoor obstacle course with items you have in the house. Then, time the kids to see who can go through it the fastest.
6. Set up a scavenger hunt indoors.
7. Limit your kids' screen time - it'll force them to use their imagination and play.
8. Build an indoor for using blankets and chairs.
9.  Set up a circus: hula hoop, juggle and jump rope for an audience.
10. Make up a dance  to a favorite song and film your kids' music video.
11. Tape large paper to the wall and get out the art supplies. Hang the masterpieces up for a mini-art show.
12. Make puppets out of paper bags and have a puppet show.
13. Sing karaoke (Don't have a karaoke machine? Just pull up the lyrics on your computer and go to town!).
14. Let your kids play dress up with your old clothes, shoes and jewelry and have a fashion show.
15. Write and direct a family TV show.

Classic Nursery Rhyme of the Month

Jack and Jill

It's easy to talk or sing with your baby!  Each month we are featuring popular classic  nursery rhymes, poems, or songs you can read or sing to your child.

Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water;
Jack fell down and broke his crown,
and Jill came tumbling after.

Up Jack got, and home did trot,
As fast as he could caper;
To old Dame Dob, who patched his nob,
with vinegar and brown paper.

Do you have any childhood favo rites? Let us know! We'd love to share them here.
You can also visit our Facebook page  to share  them, or share photos of you and your baby together.

How can you give kids the best start in life?

... by taking your children to well-child and dental check ups and also, by doing an "ASQ."

The Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) is a way to make sure your child is "on track." The screening tools are designed  to be completed by parents or primary caregivers, that encourage parent-caregiver involvement.

Each questionnaire can be completed in 10-20 minutes, and is divided into five areas: Communication, Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Problem Solving, and
Personal-Social.

The benefit for all children and families is so that parents/caregivers know which areas they can focus on at home with their children.

For more information, please call First 5 Amador at 257-1092.
