As we welcome 2026, the Center for Global Nursing is energized and inspired by the remarkable growth and collective impact we achieved together in 2025, including the expansion of our global education programs, deepened partnerships across multiple regions, and increased visibility of nurse-led scholarship and leadership worldwide.
Founded to elevate the role and leadership of nurses and advanced practice providers in global health, the Center for Global Nursing remains steadfast in its mission to empower nurses as innovators, advocates, and change makers. Through education, collaboration, research, and community engagement, we continue to advance a shared vision for a world where nurses play a leading role in shaping the future of global health.
To our extraordinary community, thank you for your leadership, passion, and collaboration. CGN's 2026 Certificate in Global Nursing Program
January 13, 2026 - March 31, 2026 | 7 to 9 AM PST (4 to 6 PM CET)

The UCSF Center for Global Nursing is excited to announce that our Certificate in Global Nursing will begin on January 13. Designed for nurses and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), this 12-week program builds the knowledge, skills, and perspectives needed to address priority challenges in global nursing, while fostering collaboration, equity, and innovation across diverse health systems.
Tiered pricing for UCSF staff/faculty/students and LMIC partners.
This certificate program is ideal for nurses and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) who are:
- Interested in exploring key concepts of global health sciences for professional development.
- Exploring global health sciences as a potential career pathway.
- Working in global health, but have not yet had the opportunity to obtain training in global health sciences.

CGN's 2026 Clinical Global Scholars Program
April 20 – May 1, 2026 (on-site dates in Kenya; does not include travel dates)

The CGN Clinical Global Scholars Program offers nurses, nurse leaders, and Advanced Practice Providers an immersive global learning experience through CGN's longstanding partnership with nursing teams in Eldoret, Kenya. The program includes a two-week immersion program that pairs each UCSF Scholar with a nurse collaborator in Kenya, creating a meaningful opportunity for bedside learning, clinical exchange, leadership development, and shared quality-improvement work rooted in social justice, ethical global engagement, cultural humility, and bidirectional partnership.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

CGN Seed Awardee Evelyn Bigini:
Assessing Providers’ Mental Health Perspectives and Experiences in Sierra Leone

Evelyn Bigini, PhD(c), MSc, RN, is a UCSF Center for Global Nursing Seed Awardee whose work is conducted in collaboration with UCSF’s Global Action in Nursing (GAIN) research program and Partners In Health in Sierra Leone. Through this collaboration, Evelyn is working with local partners to explore the mental health perspectives and lived experiences of healthcare providers working in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and special care baby unit (SCBU) at Koidu Government Hospital.
Providers’ perspectives on mental health in NICUs and SCBUs are significantly underrepresented in published research from Sierra Leone, and across West Africa more broadly. Our 2025 CGN Seed Award is supporting one of the first qualitative studies in the country to capture the voices of neonatal care providers, contributing critical insight to an emerging and important area of global nursing scholarship. Congratulations, Evelyn and team, on this exciting work.

Ashley Moore, PhD, RN
Registered Nurse, UCSF Health
Ashley Moore, PhD, RN, has recently completed her PhD studies at the UCSF School of Nursing. She continues to work as a registered nurse at the UCSF Helen Diller Comprehensive Family Cancer Center, and is currently a 2025-2026 Global Consortium on Climate and Health Education Fellow at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.
Ashley brings a diverse background in oncology, women’s health, and global disaster response, including work with women in rural Pakistan during climate-related emergencies. Her doctoral research examines how climate-driven disasters, such as the 2023 Watsonville and Pájaro floods in California, affect the health and well-being of women, with a focus on community recovery, institutional response, and access to care. Grounded in years of bedside nursing experience, Ashley is passionate about bridging clinical practice, global health, and planetary health. She is dedicated to preparing healthcare professionals to recognize and respond to the health impacts of climate change in both clinical and community contexts. Ashley also leads in her work as a faculty member for CGN’s Certificate in Global Nursing Program.
We are honored to celebrate Ashley’s outstanding contributions to bridging clinical practice, global health, and planetary health, and to acknowledge her dedication to advancing innovative, interdisciplinary approaches that improve health and well-being worldwide.

Nurses and advanced practice providers play a pivotal role in improving global population health. CGN's Global Nursing Impact Series offers a platform to highlight their leadership and impact in advancing health equity and to promote collaboration on these initiatives. Each session will feature a 20-minute presentation by invited speakers, followed by a Q&A.*

2026 CGN Cultural Humility Course Dates

CGN’s Introduction to Cultural Humility Course offers a foundational exploration of cultural humility within the contexts of nursing, advanced practice, and global health sciences. The course supports nurses and Advanced Practice Providers in recognizing personal bias, understanding how power and privilege shape clinical encounters, and building skills to foster more equitable, respectful partnerships in all settings.
This course is open to all nurses and Advanced Practice Providers, whether or not they are participating in CGN’s global programs.
2026 Course Dates: Feb. 9th, April 7th, Oct. 20th, Nov. 10th
All courses will be held virtually from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PST.

2026 Community Meetings and Journal Club

Join CGN's Community Meetings and Journal Club to participate in an open forum for nursing professionals to connect, collaborate, and engage with the latest developments in global health nursing. Our meetings are held virtually and are open to all members of the global nursing community, whether you are currently engaged in global health work or looking to expand your knowledge and network. Be a part of the conversation and help drive meaningful change in global health nursing!

Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC) is the only hospital in northern Laos that provides specialty pediatric care, offering free services to underserved families in the region. It focuses on improving access to essential health services while supporting sustainable healthcare through training local providers. Volunteering offers a meaningful way to contribute to the hospital's mission and make a difference in children's lives.
Lao Friends Hospital for Children accepts applications for medical and nursing volunteers throughout the year. All individuals interested in volunteering should be able to spend two months at LFHC during their first visit. Anyone interested is welcome to send their resumes to hr@fwablaos.org.
