January 2021
Happy New Year!
Hello and Happy New Year to our wonderful Habitat supporters! I'd like to start off the year with an introduction. My name is John Shumadine and I am the new Interim Executive Director at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland. I previously served on the Board of Directors, including as Board President. I am excited to lead our team through this transitional period as we search for a new Executive Director. We are excited for what is to come and are confident we will find the right fit for our organization.

We want to say thank you to our previous Executive Director Godfrey Wood, who stepped down at the end of 2020. He led Habitat through many important projects including the purchase of our ReStore and office building on Warren Avenue, the completion of our biggest project to-date in Scarborough, and the formation of our Critical Home Repair program. Thank you, Godfrey, for all your hard work and dedication over the years!

We look forward to a positive and productive 2021, and we wish you the same!

Make Homeownership a Reality for Deserving Maine Families!
Like everyone around the world, 2020 produced some challenges for us here at Habitat. Despite that, we are proud to say we've started work on three new homes in Freeport called Freeport Woods. In early 2021 we’ll be able to say “Welcome Home” to three deserving Maine families. They’ll embark on a new journey of homeownership, allowing for safety, stability, generational prosperity, and more. We need your help to build these homes. We hope you’ll join us in making this dream come true.
“Our family will be forever thankful to Habitat for Humanity. The people who work at Habitat and the volunteers have provided a home where we are raising our family and a homebase for us to go out and do good work in the world ourselves. It was obvious that every person we met along the way at Habitat wanted our family to succeed, that kind of support is a rare thing. Also, it is fun to still see the disbelief on the kids' faces when we tell them we helped build our house!” Habitat homeowner Zach

Habitat for the Holidays Raises Over $45,000!
We owe a huge thank you to the Greater Portland Board of REALTORS® for their Habitat for the Holidays online auction! The auction raised over $25,000 in bids alone. In addition, a matching grant of $21,390 from the Maine Association of REALTORS® Foundation brings the total to over $45,000. Thank you to GPBR and all the bidders!
Habitat Receives $12,000 State Farm Grant
We are excited to announce that we'll receive a $12,000 grant from State Farm Insurance! The funds will be used to support our upcoming 8-home community in South Portland, Sunset Place. Thanks to State Farm for this generous grant that will support our new building projects and create a long-lasting, positive impact for our families.
