Langtang Heritage  Trail
In partnership with Drs. Emma Waterton, Hayley Saul and Western Sydney University, FIRE has completed the first in a series of three interactive shelters and information portals along the last seven mile stretch of the Langtang hiking trail in the Langtang Valley. The foundations of these shelters are five feet below ground level.  This helps to provide additional protection from the weather. The locations were strategically chosen by the historical geography of the landscape and local legends associated with the area. At the center of the shelters will be a sign board with an iPad featuring local elders sharing the legends of that location in their own language, subtitled with eight different language options. In addition to helping preserve the threatened cultural traditions of Langtang it can also shelter up to 15 people in an emergency.
