Level Up in the New Year

Words from your Houston SCBWI Regional Advisor

Happy

New Year

from the

regional team!

Happy New Year!

I don’t know how and I don’t know why, but it’s already 2025! I am starting the New Year on FIRE! We have some new programming in store for you all. I’m buzzing with ideas, and Annie is trying to talk me down.

With the start of the new year, it is important to set personal, health, and of course creativity goals. We want to focus on programming that you desire. So, whether you’re an author or illustrator, we want to hear from you. Let us know what type of programming you are most interested in.

Additionally, it’s that time of year when ALL the volunteer positions are open. If one of your goals is to volunteer or help your local community, be sure to apply!

I can't wait to see that this year brings up!

Warmest Wishes,

Kisha Kaye

FOLK WISDOM & OTHER THOUGHTS

By Jim Smolski

"The smallest ray of sunshine can start a leaf to turn and look with hope. I want to be the sunshine that creates that moment for at least one leaf every day."

-Jim

When Silly Goes Away

From newborn to around ten.

Acting silly is okay.

Laughing and being goofy

At any time of day.

What happens is grown upness.

Around the age of ten.

Acting silly is just something.

Not happening again.

Years go by and always.

Mature not misbehaving.

Acting silly on hold but why.

For reputation saving?

Now, I don’t care what people think.

It won’t embarrass me.

I’m old enough. Worries are gone.

So, silly I can be.

Yes, at ten it went away.

But something that I learned.

Acting silly is so much fun.

I’m glad that it returned.
