Arts and Culture is looking forward to our guest speaker for the January 15 General Meeting. It is Justin Ball, Executive Director of Stage Door Theatre. Please come and hear him give us exciting information on their season, community engagement programs, and, of course, the Academy! SDT began as Stage Door Players in 1971, with the help of a few community leaders and members of the Dunwoody Woman's Club. It has since moved and grown to become a treasured community nonprofit. Justin Ball is an accomplished producer, educator, director and theatre manager with over 20 years of theatre experience in New York, and where, for over a decade, he taught theatre management and directing at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. An Atlanta resident since 2017, we are excited to welcome Justin Ball to our meeting and hope you'll join us and invite your friends to come as well.

As part of DWC's commitment to education in our local communities, we sponsor several "Little Library" box locations around town, including Georgetown Park, Dunwoody Nature Center, Pernoshal Park, and City Hall.
Recently our Georgetown Park box, built by member Joan Smith and her husband, suffered irreplaceable weather damage and had to be replaced. With the help of Linda's son and daughter-in-law, and Dunwoody Parks and Recreation who moved the support pole, we now have a new box with protection from the rain when selecting books.

Leadership
Deborah Gault dcgault@comcast.net
Thank you to all the members who volunteered to ring the bell for the Salvation Army Red Kettle for four Saturdays through December. We completed more than 18 session hours with 21 ringers participating and our members and friends donated approximately $5,000.
If you would like to make a donation, the online link below facilitates your donation. A donation of any size is welcome and helps people in our community. If you need a tax deduction, or want an easy way to participate, use the link below to make a donation. The Atlanta International Corps of the Salvation Army is located in Doraville, and more than 90% of the amount raised will be used in our community to benefit those that need assistance, not just during the holidays but all year.

There is a group code available for the Dunwoody Woman’s Club so that all money collected by our members will be tabulated and acknowledged for the benefit of the Salvation Army’s Atlanta International Corps. Donations made to the Salvation Army remain within their communities with .94 of each $1.00 donated going directly to help our neighbors.

Legislation
Dottie D'Angelo dottieatlanta@gmail.com
Why is it important to contact members of congress and federal agencies on matters that are important to you? In accordance with the resolutions adopted by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, GFWC often joins other national organizations to urge congressional or federal agency action on a particular matter. These letters, in addition to individual clubwomen contacting their members of Congress directly through the Legislative Action Center, result in a national network of grassroots advocates working together to improve the lives of club members, their communities, our nation, and the global community.

Jana, Our Gateway to the New Year
Jana, Roman goddess of the moon, is depicted with two faces, “one looking toward the past and one looking forward to the future. Her consort, the Roman god Janus is depicted the same way.” Jana and her buddy Janus symbolize transitions and new beginnings. Hence, the first month of our calendar year, January, is aptly named and linked to Jana and Janus.
January is our time to assess the past, set new goals, and make resolutions for the coming year. As DWC volunteers, we can look to the past year and take pride in the work we did to improve our community. We can fret about the reports we must turn in to our state organization in January, but we also recognize that those reports are the book of our accomplishments.
That done, like Jana, we can now face firmly forward into the new year, wrestling with budget and line items, assessing initiatives, and drawing the roadmap we will follow throughout 2026.
In some cultures, Jana is often shown with a wolf at her side. Among animals, the spirit of the wolf symbolizes loyalty, strength and community. The wolf moon, which occurs in January, gives us that moment in time to celebrate the goals we have set and begin the next chapter of DWC’s work. Jana would definitely approve.
