Platte County Federated Women's Democratic Club
The Platte County Democratic Women met on January 9th at the Platte County Resource Center.

The program featured Candidates for the Kansas City, Mo City Council: Justin Short, 4th District At-Large, https://www.justinshortforkc.com/, Wes Rogers, 2nd District, https://ballotpedia.org/Wes_Rogers, Kevin O’Neil, Incumbent 1st District, https://www.kcmo.gov/city-hall/city-officials/city-council-members/councilman-kevin-o-neill-1st-district

Rita McGuire reported that Sharen Hunt had submitted a proposed revision to last year’s Women’s Club Platform. The revision is primarily a summary of the previous platform. Rita called for comments. Alice said that her only suggestion would be to split the first category “Identify candidates and races and assist candidates” into two groups because identifying candidates and races and assisting candidates are two very different activities. The Club voted to accept the proposed revision to read as follows:

Identify candidates and races
Identify upcoming open races and provide a listing of openings, filing location, cost to file (if any) and deadlines; Recruit candidates, help with petition signatures.

Assist Candidates
Post cards, calls, yard signs, literature drops, host events, fund raising
Recruit and confirm yard sign locations for Democratic Candidates in all elections.

Plans for the Women’s Club fund raising activities for Music and Mimosas were discussed. We do not plan to do a silent auction this year. Dawn Dolbe suggested that we try selling raffle tickets for a cash prize. The idea was tabled for the Mimosa event but might be a good fund raiser later. It was noted that the raffle for donated items we did last year was awkward as it took up a lot of time at the end of the event. Among the suggestions was that we try to find one big item, like Chief tickets or a stay for two at the Argosy to use for the raffle. The Club agreed to continue discussion at our next meeting. The fund raising committee will try to meet before then.
