From Your Associational Mission Strategist

I love new beginnings and every time a new year comes around, it feels like we have a new beginning. As we begin a new year let me encourage all of us to kick off the year with a stronger intention of reaching more people with the Gospel. My hearts desire is to see every home in our Association area to have heard the Gospel by the end of 2022. This goal can be achieved if we begin to pray for our communities like we have never done before. I would challenge all our churches to pray for the lost but not in general, but to call those who are lost by name. If you haven’t already put together a list of names that you know on your prayer list that are lost, I would encourage you to do that. I have heard of churches that have put a wooden cross in their sanctuary with the first names of people that are lost and each time a person receives Christ, they mark that name with red representing the blood of Jesus washing away their sin.

We can also be more intentional about reaching the lost by going door to door in our communities with the Gospel presentation. Our Association Evangelism team has already begun to help churches with this effort by providing materials for churches to use. If you would like to inquire about those materials, please contact the association office.

In the coming year I am encouraging our Pastors to organize efforts with other churches to have community block parties in their neighborhoods. This is a great way for our churches to come together and have a fun gathering for the community and those who attend will know we love them, and that God desires to have a relationship with them. Our Evangelism team is available to help with this. I would like to remind our churches that we have an Association Evangelism trailer to help with outreach events.

I can’t wait to see what God will do in this new year as we join our hearts together and not only pray for those who are lost, but intentionally share the Gospel. May God give us a greater compassion for the lost and let us work together to build the Kingdom of God!

What to do with all those old Sunday School books?

Don’t throw them away–bring them to SCBN Office

Bring your old SS literature to Houston Baptist Center. Chad Harris will take it to a Edwin L. Hodges Ministries collection site to send overseas. ELHM is a Christian literature ministry that collects donated Bibles, books, magazines, tapes, and tracts from American Christians and ships them to Bible schools, churches, missionaries, and ministries overseas. ELHM is a non-denominational, nonprofit, evangelical ministry.
