COVID...
Mask Policy
DCFS mandates mask be used by all adults and children 2 years and over. We are now required, not just encouraged, to follow this rule. Masks must be worn at all times tolerable except during meal times, sleeping, and playing outside. If you have not done so already, please provide us with a mask for your child aged 2 and up. Please place a mask on your child before entering the building in the morning.

Family Pledge:
Please continue to be mindful of your pledge to KKLC. We can not keep our children safe without your dedication to health and safety. You can help by doing the following:
  1. Continue to take precautions to limit your exposure as you move about in the community.
  2. Wash your hands often and wear your mask in group settings.
  3. If your child or someone in your household shows sign of illness, please use a cautious approach when deciding to send your child to school.
  4. If someone in your household shows signs of COVID-19 and needs to be tested, please keep your children at home until the results are known.

This month we are focusing on Protein...
What foods are in the Protein Foods Group?
All foods made from meat, poultry, seafood, beans and peas, eggs, processed soy products, nuts, and seeds are considered part of the Protein Foods Group. Beans and peas are also part of the Vegetable Group. For more information on beans and peas, see Beans and Peas Are Unique Foods.

Select a variety of protein foods to improve nutrient intake and health benefits, including at least 8 ounces of cooked seafood per week. Young children need less, depending on their age and calorie needs. The advice to consume seafood does not apply to vegetarians. Vegetarian options in the Protein Foods Group include beans and peas, processed soy products, and nuts and seeds. Meat and poultry choices should be lean or low-fat.

Suggested serving sizes...

Literacy Corner...
Does your child have a favorite book they want to read over and over again? I bet you’ve memorized every word. You loved its adorable illustrations and clever text when you first brought it home, but now you’ve grown to hate it. You might even wish it would disappear forever. I feel your pain. I know it can be maddening, but before you toss this particular book, you may want to reconsider. Despite its annoyances, repetitive reading — whether you’re reading to your child or they’re reading to you — offers a surprising number of benefits for new readers.
