VegMichigan Sandwiches at Zingerman's!

To celebrate Veganuary, the iconic Zingerman's Delicatessen in Ann Arbor collaborated with VegMichigan to create three vegan sandwiches for the month of January! They've brought back an old favorite from their retired sandwich menu and added two new vegan sandwiches as well:

The Right Tempeh-ture!

Smoked tempeh from The Brinery, lettuce, tomato, sliced avocado, on toasted Rustic Italian bread from Zingerman's Bakehouse

Amazing Grace (Rodger’s Version)

Moroccan Carrot Spread, seared Michigan mushrooms from Mycopia, cucumber and tahini dressing on a hoagie bun

Cauli Bahn Ve

Fried cauliflower tossed in a sweet and spicy dressing, onions and cucumber pickled in rice vinegar and sesame oil on a grilled Zingerman's Bakehouse Paesano Roll

The sandwiches of the month often serve as a test run for potential new permanent menu items, so we encourage you to support this effort. Purchasing these sandwiches during the month of January will increase the chances that they are kept on the menu while enjoying a delicious meal. Every deli order in January will also include a flyer about the benefits of eating plant-forward meals and lowering our carbon foodprints while also highlighting VegMichigan's work with the City of Ann Arbor.

Please join us for either or both of our two Meetups at Zingerman's Delicatessen, 422 Detroit St. in Ann Arbor, on Wednesday, January 8, at 5:30pm and Friday, January 31, at Noon to support these exciting new (and delicious) menu items! Registrations must be completed by Sunday, January 5 for the January 8 dinner and Tuesday, January 28 for the January 31 lunch so we can submit the orders to Zingerman's in advance. Thank you!

Enter the raffle this month (details below) to win one of three $25 gift cards to Zingerman's for use on the vegan items in the month of January!

Michiganders for a Just Farming System Victory

As a member organization of Michiganders for a Just Farming System (MJFS), we spent a large portion of the year opposing MI S.B. 275, which would have incentivized the production of animal manure as a biofuel, increasing the number of animals raised on factory farms in our state. A HUGE thank you to everyone who called, emailed, and wrote letters to their lawmakers, as well as those who lobbied in Lansing and attended their local representatives' "coffee hours" to speak out against MI S.B. 275. Thanks to our efforts, and many other animal and environmental organizations, we are thrilled to say that we succeeded and the bill was not passed! Please complete this 7-Question Survey (estimated time 1-minute) to let MJFS know what you want to focus on in 2025. Register for our January 13 Zoom Call if you want to learn more and help end factory farming in Michigan.

Cage-Free Egg Law Takes Effect in Michigan

Michigan is the first Midwestern state and the tenth state to pass a law outlawing battery cage systems for egg-producing hens. This law has been 15 years in the making and now all eggs must be cage-free, with a few exceptions, starting on January 1, 2025. While we will continue to work to free hens from harm, securing any victory for farm animals through legislation is nearly impossible so let’s celebrate this accomplishment knowing that a hen's life will be a little less miserable with this new law in place. This also makes Michigan the largest cage-free egg-producing state in the country.
