AmeriCorps VISTA Members Bringing Innovation and a Passion for Service to Prevent Child Abuse Arizona
AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national program designed to help alleviate poverty in the United States. Members dedicate a year of full-time volunteer service to an assigned nonprofit organization or public agency to build and expand programs that help bring communities out of poverty. During their year of service, members improve the organizational, administrative, and financial capacities of organizations so they can be sustainable after the support from the VISTA has ended.
PCA Arizona has two VISTA alumni and one current VISTA: Executive Director Claire Louge, Training and Development Specialist Molly Peterson, and Fund Development Assistant, Maribel Escobar, respectively.

Impact Story
30 Years of Impact
|
On December 31, 2019, founder and former executive director Becky Ruffner retired, after leading Prevent Child Abuse Arizona with a passion for ensuring children of Arizona are raised in safe, stable and nurturing homes. “It all started in 1989 with a banker’s box and a borrowed Kaypro computer in my garage,” said Ruffner. At that time, prevention was a new concept. Previously, child welfare professionals only focused on intervention after damage had been done. With Ruffner's hard work, PCA Arizona has been able to implement prevention programs that help avert abuse before it happens.
Thank you, Becky, for your 30 years of leadership!

Fundraising
Help victims of abuse at no cost to you through tax credit donation
As we enter a new decade, many things will probably change. But there is one thing we know happens every year in January: the arrival of W-2’s. This year, consider a tax credit donation to the Yavapai Family Advocacy Center through the Prescott Sunrise Lions Foundation. Through your donation, you can bring hope and healing to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, severe child abuse, and other violent crimes.
The Arizona Department of Revenue allows an income tax credit for individuals up to $400, or $800 for married couples filing jointly. The amount you donate will be returned to you or subtracted from your tax liability.
Please consult your tax adviser for more information.

A Note from Claire: Small But Significant
|
Ah, the New Year. The time when we are all supposed to commit to improving our lives. The time when in hopes of becoming a better version of ourselves, we tend to set ourselves up for failure, by setting goals so epic they overwhelm us.
If you're reading this, I'm guessing that you, like me, are interested in changing systems to better serve our children and families.
We've got a lot of big things to do in 2020.
What small but significant change do you commit to making?
