2023 State of the State


On January 10, Governor Hochul delivered her State of the State address, in which she called special attention to New York’s housing crisis, among other important subjects. Her budgetary and policy priorities are outlined in the 2023 State of the State Book. Watch NYSEDC's summary here.

$30M Pre-Seed and Seed Matching Fund Program Launch


A total of $30 million is available to support business development and job creation among early-stage start-up companies in high-growth industries. Awards range from $50,000–$250,000 and must be matched 1:1 by private sector co-investors. Funding comes from the State Small Business Credit Initiative, part of the American Rescue Plan. Applications Open for REV’s Summer 2023 Prototyping Hardware Accelerator


Rev: Ithaca Startup Works’ 10-week Prototyping Hardware Accelerator leads physical product teams in a thorough analysis of whether their ideas are commercially desirable, technologically feasible, and economically viable. Upon program completion, participants are better positioned to recruit team members, bring on partners, initiate work with contract manufacturers, and pitch to investors. Attend an information session or apply now for the 2023 summer cohort. Deadline is March 31st.

Office of Strategic Workforce Development Awards $6M in Inaugural Grant Round


The newly created NYS Office of Strategic Workforce Development has awarded more than $6 million to eight projects across the state in the first round of its Capital and Pay for Performance grant programs. The projects will leverage more than $4 million in public-private funding and support nearly 3,000 trainees and over 100 businesses in fields like advanced manufacturing, information technology, and more.


Cornell University and partners received $400,742 to provide dairy industry training through a processing bootcamp and online Dairy Science and Sanitation Course. See the award announcement and project details here

Senate Majority Leader Schumer Holds Broadband Press Conference in Dryden


IAED and partners attended a press conference hosted by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to tout the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which allocates $65 million to expand broadband access in rural communities. He also encouraged New Yorkers to use the FCC broadband maps to confirm service levels. The backdrop was the Town Hall in Dryden, birthplace of municipal Internet Service Provider, Dryden Fiber.

U.S. Representative Molinaro Visits ITIA


U.S. Representative for NY19, Marc Molinaro, visited with IAED and partners at Ithaca Area International Airport to discuss transportation infrastructure, housing, childcare, workforce development, and other challenges facing small communities across his district. This was Rep. Molinaro’s first trip to the area since his recent election; while here, he also met with TC3 and the Tompkins County Legislature.

TRAINING & EMPLOYMENT

TSA Hosting Recruitment Event at Ithaca Airport on Jan. 20


The TSA is holding a recruitment event from 10am–noon on Friday, January 20 at the Ithaca airport to hire additional workers in advance of the busy spring and summer travel seasons. Full- and part-time positions are available, with a starting salary of $36,821 moving to $46,245 after one year of employment. Interested individuals are encouraged to visit the recruitment table in the airport lobby to the right side of the security checkpoint.

AM&T Offers Free Ergonomics Training


Alliance for Manufacturing & Technology provides a free OSHA-certified ergonomics training for manufacturers with fewer than 250 employees. There is no cost for the 2-hour training that must be completed by September 1, 2023. Sign up here.

Employers looking to engage college students and the community while creating talent pipelines are encouraged to attend career exploration and recruitment events on the TC3 campus in 2023! Opportunities include:


  • On-Campus Info Sessions to promote your organization and jobs
  • Career Exploration Week tabling events, March 6-10, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Job and Internship Fair, March 22, 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
