Dear Friends and Families of SWAN:

Happy Chinese New Year! I hope everyone is excited as I am in welcoming Year of the Rabbit.

This year, SWAN is not only adding a new Kindergarten classroom, but we have also added a new beginner after-school classroom in Park Slope, CBE location. Most importantly, I hope you have saved the 3/24 Spring Festival Students Performance Date. This is SWAN’s first Students’ Performance since pre covid, and all SWAN students from preschool, after-school, weekend, and virtual program are coming together to celebrate the culture and spirits of the Year of the Rabbit! There will be students’ performance, raffle / silent auction and spring market for a fun filled night. Help us by adding more silent auction items to our growing list. We welcome gift cards, gift certficates and supporting businesses will be featured in our social media with over 1,700 contacts.

As always, I want to take this time to thank our parents for supporting SWAN, I am so appreciative of all you do in continuing SWAN’s mission. Thank you for giving the staff and I the opportunity to deliver accessible and immersive language learning for the next generation.

Teacher Highlight: Ms. Jessica Wang

Meet our new Saturday morning teacher, Ms. Jessica Wang!

Jessica is a SWAN alum! She attended SWAN’s afterschool for over 10 years. Throughout high school, she also worked for SWAN as a Teacher Assistant and an Office Assistant. Ms. Wang has a B.A. from Ithaca College where she studied Education and researched and volunteered in local schools. Ms. Wang is currently pursuing her Master’s at Columbia University.

Ms. Wang is a true SWAN success story. Of her experience at SWAN, Ms. Wang says “Thanks to SWAN, I feel so connected to my family's culture and can communicate with my elders well. To this day, my friends and family are still shocked by my understanding of the Chinese language.”

Ms. Wang’s teaching philosophy is about building community relationships while providing resources, creativity, and space to allow students to understand themselves as an individual. She finds it rewarding and motivating to watch her students grow.

SWAN is proud of our alums and we are so happy to have her in our Saturday program!

Preschool Christmas Around the World

The preschoolers celebrated “Christmas Around The World” this December! Our students performed holiday songs in Mandarin and did research projects with their families and presented them to the class.
