January Newsletter
Happy New Year!

We wanted to fill you in on a couple changes we are making to our email communication in 2019.

You might have noticed our quarterly newsletters were running a bit long. In order to keep you up to date on our two build projects, we are switching to shorter newsletters sent once a month.

In addition to our newsletters, we occasionally send emails about upcoming events, raffles, and other programs offered by Habitat. We only want to send you information relevant to you, so please feel free to click here and choose which emails you would like to receive from us. (You can update this at any time by clicking 'Update Profile' in the footer of our emails.)

Thank you for choosing to stay up-to-date with what we're doing in the community! It's because of supporters like you that we are able to help more local families secure safe and affordable housing.
build updates

2018 was the first year we built in two communities at the same time. Thanks to our many supporters, four families moved into their new Habitat homes in time for Christmas.

477 Hilchey Road
Campbell River
Two duplexes (four units) are occupied by homeowners. The third duplex is now under construction, and a fourth duplex and a triplex are planned for this site in 2019-2020.
1330 Lake Trail Road
Courtenay
The first duplex (two units) is now homeowner-occupied. Insulation is in progress for the second. Upcoming tasks include drywall, interior painting, and flooring.
homeownership info sessions
We are seeking families in Campbell River and the Comox Valley to partner with us to become homeowners. Join us at one of our upcoming homeownership information sessions to learn more about the process and ask any questions you have about the eligibility requirements .

other news
Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 can raise money for our local Habitat by writing about what home means to them.

Throughout 2018, the congregation at St. George's supported Habitat through fundraising, food donations, and fellowship.

volunteer opportunities

This is the first year in our (almost) 15 year history that we have continued to work on our build projects over the winter, and we could use more help with construction, as well as food service Site Hosts, and other tasks that  don't  require you to swing a hammer!

We are making great progress in both Campbell River and Courtenay, however, with so many people taking winter vacations and not aware that we are still working, the volunteer numbers are quite low some days.

Read about the various  volunteer roles and check out our  Build Volunteer Q&A . You may also sign-up on our  online volunteer scheduling system or, if you have further questions, contact Terri Perrin at 1-250-218-4952 or  email Terri .

With the warm weather just around the corner, we anticipate an increase in ReStore donations as people start their spring cleaning.  We could use more volunteers to help customers, as well as to sort, clean, repair, price, and display these donations. An in-store orientation is required for first-time ReStore volunteers. Online registration is not available for ReStore volunteers at this time. Learn more on our website.
