Happy New Year!

2023 was filled with many wonderful events including delicious weekly meals, engaging Lunch & Learn topics, cultural exploration at Folklorama, and cherished time with our grandfriends at Bright Beginnings; just to name a few! We wrapped up our year in December with a busy month of gathering together and embracing in the joy of the holiday season. Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who made our holiday lunch a huge success! We hope everyone enjoyed some restful time over the holidays and we look forward to getting back into the swing of things in the new year here at HSS with our regular programming!

Exciting news! Margo Price has joined Kristie as new resource coordinator. Margo comes to us with a background in critical care nursing and clinical nursing education. She is thrilled to be part of the team and looks forward to connecting with and serving the members in her own community. Please stop in and say hello!

As always, we are here as a resource for the residents of Headingley. If you have any questions or suggestions about what we offer at HSS please let us know. Newcomers are always welcome!

Take care!

Winter Health Tips

We’ve been blessed with a milder winter thus far, but winter can be hard on our mental health as the days are darker, shorter, and colder. In Canada, as many as 15% of people experience the “winter blues,” also known as a milder form of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

While winter in Manitoba is unavoidable, there are some things you can do to help with the winter blues, including:

  • Getting some daylight (bundle up and head outside)
  • Exercise regularly and manage stress
  • Eat a well-balanced diet & maintain a good sleep routine

Please take a peak at our January calendar to see what we offer this month. Come for a warm healthy meal on Wednesdays, join a class through MHRD to engage in more physical activity, or stop by for a visit with one of our coordinators to discover what we have to offer here at HSS. Newcomers are always welcome!
