Living the Dream: Bronx Children's Museum Facility Opens Its Doors to the Public

After 12 years in development, Bronx Children’s Museum has opened the doors of its new facility to the public. Woo-hoo! We can’t express how excited we are to finally welcome children, parents and caregivers into the brand new award-winning space and engage with them to play, explore, connect and soar.

It was quite a milestone. See the highlights below, read all about it on our website, or check out some of the coverage we received in the media.

Since opening our doors on December 3, the Museum has welcomed more than 1,300 visitors into our new home. Young visitors have given us rave reviews with some saying they don’t want to leave and others exclaiming, "I want to live here!” Caregivers are equally as excited about the space, saying "My kids had a great time! The Museum is absolutely beautiful, and its connection to the culture of the Bronx is so appreciated,” and “I wish I had a place like this when I was growing up."

Special thanks to the Mayor's Office, our elected officials (city, state and federal), NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, NYC Department of Design and Construction, NYC Parks, Bronx Children's Museum Board of Directors, Staff, Donors and our extensive community for all your steadfast support and dedication. Thank you especially to the children of the Bronx for inspiring us to dream big.

Three Times the Fun

We’re now open three days a week: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays! That means children and families will have more time to explore our Bronx-inspired exhibits, travel to new worlds through Storytime, pet the Museum’s friendly residents during Animal Encounters and so much more. We also have an exciting lineup of artists that will lead visitors in fun activities on Saturdays in the Wonder Room.

Plan your visit today!

  • Ticket reservations are available on the Museum's website.
  • While most Saturdays in January and February are already booked, you can reserve your tickets for Tuesdays and Thursdays which are less crowded days. Follow us on Instagram for announcements about the availability of additional blocks of tickets.

Bronx Children’s Museum Hosts Governor Hochul Press Conference

Wanda Carter, Chief Operating Officer of the Highbridge Advisory Council Family Services; Senator Luis Sepúlveda, Assemblywoman Yudelka Tapia, Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, NYC Council Deputy Speaker, District 8, Diana Ayala; and District Leader, 79th Assembly District, Lanita Jones stand with Governor Kathy Hochul after the press event at Bronx Children’s Museum.

Executive Director Carla Precht presents a copy of Bronx Children's Museum's "The Lowdown on the High Bridge" by Sonia Manzano to Governor Hochul for her granddaughter.

Governor Kathy Hochul held a press conference at Bronx Children’s Museum on Wednesday, January 11. Building upon her State of the State address, the governor highlighted a plan to make New York's child care system fairer, more affordable and easier to access. In addition to plans to streamline and centralize the child care application process, her proposals include expanding access to the system and providing assistance to families, workers and businesses to support New York's child care infrastructure.

Governor Hochul thanked Founding Executive Director Carla Precht, the Board and all who have had a hand in shaping BxCM. “Here at this museum, you stimulate the kids, you give them that refuge, you offer them a chance to find out who they are and just have fun,” said the Governor, who is the first mother to lead the state. “Thank you on behalf of all the people of New York for creating this spectacular space.”

Creating Flora & Fauna-Inspired Portraiture at Little Friends of the Museum

Little Friends of the Museum Afterschool Program is in full swing! Held on Wednesdays and Thursdays through the spring at Roberto Clemente State Park, students created mixed media collages that combine their portraits and photos of the flora and fauna found throughout the Bronx as their first project. Little Friends of the Museum participants learned collage techniques, as well as contemplated their place in nature.

Funding provided in part by The Department of Cultural Affairs through a CASA grant from NYC Council Member Althea Stevens and New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
