We Need You to Help Stop Factory Farming in MI
Factory farms mistreat animals by the millions. They reduce the quality of life and increase health problems for communities that live near them. They pollute our air, land, and water. Methane is a greenhouse gas that is 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), livestock is responsible for putting more methane in the atmosphere than any other industrial sector, including oil and gas. Instead of dismantling this broken system, fossil fuel companies and industrial agriculture are joining forces to sell us a greenwashing nightmare. They are asking Michigan lawmakers to spend taxpayer dollars to build anaerobic digesters on factory farms to capture the methane and refine it into "renewable" natural gas. This horrible idea will only capture a portion of the methane, and will still result in burning natural gas and releasing CO2 into the atmosphere. In the last two years, Michigan has been the largest center of manure digester development outside of California. If we don't fight back, factory farming will increase in Michigan. Please watch the video to learn more about factory farms and biogas. The biogas portion starts at the 20-minute mark. Also, contact Governor Whitmer and please register for our January 11 (6pm) Zoom meeting.
