January One Water Spotlight: 2016 Water Prize Winners--Where are They Now? 
 
The US Water Alliance created the US Water Prize in 2011 to recognize organizations tackling our nation's water challenges and implementing One Water solutions. This award showcases the best of the best among public, private, and community leaders paving the way in innovative and holistic water management.

With the nomination process underway for the 2017 US Water Prize, it's the perfect time to take a look back at our impressive 2016 winners: DC Water, DOW, and Emory University. These three pioneering organizations are great sources of inspiration, and have not stopped pushing forward with their ambitious projects.

George Hawkins and Susan Story Join Alliance Board

The US Water Alliance is thrilled to welcome DC Water General Manager and CEO George Hawkins and American Water President and CEO Susan Story to our Board of Directors!

George Hawkins
has served as the CEO and General Manager of DC Water since 2009, where he oversees the distribution of drinking water and wastewater collection and treatment for more than 680,000 customers in Washington, DC, and wastewater treatment for 1.8 million customers in Washington's surrounding counties. Last year, DC Water was selected as a winner of the US Water Prize for its Bailey Bioenergy Facility, which is the first Water Resource Recovery Program of its kind in North America.

Susan Story 
has led American Water, the country's largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, since 2014, after joining American Water in 2013 as Chief Financial Officer. Under Story's leadership, American Water provides water, wastewater, and other related services to 15 million people in 47 states and Ontario, Canada. Story brings over 30 years of utility leadership to the US Water Alliance's board of directors, with previous executive positions in energy utilities across the country.

US Water Alliance Releases 2016 Annual Report

2016 was a remarkable year for the US Water Alliance. Guided by a restructured board of directors and new Chief Executive Officer, the organization has developed a three­-year strategy and aligned it's programming around that vision. A surge in new members and financial supporters--coupled with new staff with diverse backgrounds and expertise--has enabled us to expand our capacity to take on projects that address the most critical water issues facing the nation. We are furthering our reach and impact, bringing new stakeholders to the One Water table, and building strong partnerships for progress.

Applications are Now Open for 2017 US Water Prize

Applications are now open for the 2017 US Water Prize! Awarded on an annual basis,
the US Water Prize celebrates outstanding achievement in the advancement of sustainable solutions to our nation's water challenges. It is the pre-eminent national recognition program for exemplary efforts to secure a sustainable water future for all. Each year, the award is presented to three organizations--one public sector, one private sector, and one community, civic, or research institution. For the first time, the US Water Prize will also be awarded to two individuals, a journalist and public official, whose work has made significant contributions to tackling our nation's greatest water challenges. | Read More
