January President's Newsletter

Dear FPA Metro New York Members,

Happy New Year, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and here’s to a promising start to 2024!

With the new year I want to warmly welcome our new board members, as highlighted in my December update. Additionally, it’s a bittersweet farewell to those who have served over the past several years. A heartfelt thank you goes out to each of them for their unwavering commitment, dedication, and invaluable contributions to our chapter.

Let's acknowledge the remarkable individuals stepping down:

  • Stephanie Carmel (5-year term) – Stephanie wore multiple hats during her tenure on the board—Advocacy Director, President-Elect, President, and Chair. Her ongoing commitment as our chapter’s representative to the OneFPA Advisory Council that our chapter’s voice is heard among FPA National leadership.
  • Viki Kamin (5-year term) – Viki, our fearless Treasurer, expertly managed our chapter’s finances, meticulously tracking expenses, constructing budgets, and ensuring adherence to financial plans. Her warm presence and friendly face was a constant at all our in-person events and she will work with our new Treasurer to ensure a seamless transition.
  • Rhoundy Jones (3-year term) – Rhoundy, a familiar face as the Pro Bono Director, worked tirelessly to sustain our Pro Bono activities throughout the pandemic. His dedication ensured an uninterrupted commitment to serving the underprivileged community. Rhoundy will continue his involvement as a liaison for the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation.
  •  Mallon Fitzpatrick (3-year term) – Mallon did a wonderful job as Education and Partnership Director throughout his term, collaborating with other board members to curate exceptional education meetings for our members.

Finally, I want to announce that the NexGen and Pro Bono communities are co-hosting our chapter’s first in-person event on January 16th, REGISTER HERE! This will be a great opportunity for members looking to get more involved in either of these communities and who want to learn more about the chapter’s pro bono activities!

Michael Friedman, CMIP. has been in the insurance industry for over 18 years, focusing only on Medicare for the last 15. It started when his grandparents asked him to review their Medicare coverage. Since then, Michael has been helping Medicare eligible individuals navigate Medicare to find the plan that fits best for them. Michael believes that one of the keys to making wise Medicare decisions is education. He has hosted as well as been a guest speaker for dozens of educational events, both in person and on zoom.
