January 2019

We hope your family enjoyed a joyful Christmas and we wish you a blessed
 New Year.

Martin Luther King Holiday
There will be NO Religious Education classes held on Monday, January 21st and Tuesday, January 22nd.

First Communion Families
The Candle Mass for all children preparing to make their First Communion is scheduled for 6 pm, Saturday, January 12th. At this mass, children preparing for First Communion will receive a First Eucharist candle in remembrance of this special year. A parent meeting regarding the First Eucharist Program is scheduled for Monday, January 28th at 6:40 pm and Tuesday, January 29th at 4:25 pm in the Canfield Center. All of the paperwork for First Communion will be distributed at this meeting.  It is important for parents to attend one of these sessions. Babysitting will be available for younger siblings, but you must call 885-7022 to reserve a spot.

Eighth Grade Confirmation Families
The Confirmation Candidate and Sponsor Workshop is scheduled for Sunday, January 13th at 3:45 pm in the school cafeteria. If your child's sponsor is unable to attend, a parent should accompany the student to this event.  The afternoon will be an informative, inspiring and faith-filled experience.  Parents and family members should plan to join us for mass at 6:00 pm in the church. This special liturgy will include the Rite of Enrollment for the Confirmation candidates where they will formally be acknowledged and blessed as they continue their final preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Seventh and Eighth Grade Families
If you are missing or in need of Confirmation forms please visit the St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church website.  Click here for January Works of Mercy and Service Opportunities.
Junior High Parents
Please come for a special prayer opportunity with our 6th, 7th and 8th grade students during class time on Monday, January 28 or Tuesday, January 29 in the church.  Our students will have a chance to experience a beautiful time of prayer with praise and worship music in front of the Blessed Sacrament.  We warmly welcome you to join us.

Adoration for the Whole Family
Please consider bringing your whole family, and especially your junior high children to "Encounter" - an hour of Eucharistic Adoration with beautiful praise and worship music and a great speaker.  The opportunity for individual confessions or individual prayer is also available.  "Encounter" is held once a month after the 6 pm Sunday Mass.  If you cannot stay the whole time, no problem. Come for as long as you are comfortable. The next Encounter is scheduled for Sunday, January 20th from 7:15 - 8:15 pm.  See flyer below for speaker details.

Snow Closing Policy
If it is necessary to cancel classes, we will send out an e-mail or your child's catechist will make every effort to reach you by phone. Feel free to call our office if you are in doubt. We do not necessarily follow the Grosse Pointe Schools' decisions regarding closing because our classes start so much later in the day. Very often the snow has cleared by the time our classes are scheduled to begin.
