A New Year and New Beginnings
Not only are we beginning a new year, we are also starting off with new leadership and new directions. Missouri Humanities is at a strategic turning point, and it is my pleasure to serve as the new in-coming Board Chair. What an opportunity we have before us.

My New Life in Humanities
Since starting with MO Humanities in September 2021, I have been exploring the meaning and value of Humanities. What I am learning is that Humanities is invaluable for us to better understand our past, make sense of the present, and reimagine a better future.

A Humanistic Metaverse: Immersive Realities and Digital Humanities
The metaverse is approaching and will have a strong, yet unknown, impact on education. Using head-mounted displays (HMDs), students are already able to exchange ideas, socialize, and explore like never before, made possible through the technology of virtual reality (VR). Through studies have demonstrated the educational benefits the technology, its use has primarily been restricted to Computer Science.

However, thanks to a grant from the Missouri Humanities Council, Lindenwood University expanded use through the digital humanities, beginning with a workshop and extended into programs where studies confirmed VR leads to higher motivation, deeper learning, and long-term retention.
