W&L Subaru in Northumberland, PA

W&L Subaru is proud to be a certified Subaru Eco-Friendly Retailer. "Innovative and Efficient are two things that stand out in our minds when being a Subaru Dealer...being a part of the Eco-Friendly Program is just that: eliminating waste and repurposing it to make something new to better our community."

Making a difference in the community is certainly important to W&L Subaru. Last spring, employee volunteers did just that at Everyone's Playground, an all-inclusive playground created to accommodate children and others with special needs, disabilities, and other challenging conditions.

Twelve employees from all departments at W&L Subaru made the short trip to Selinsgrove, PA, to volunteer to help "spruce up" the grounds of Everyone's Park.

Volunteers spent the day planting seven new trees, adding new mulch, edging, and weeding the flower beds. In addition to these horticultural activities, they also cleaned up trash around the park.

"At W&L Subaru, we're proud to be a part of the Everyone's Playground project because we're more than a car dealer -- we're a part of the community."

Florida's Eco-Friendly Retirement Community

Have family or friends who live full- or part-time in The Villages, FL? Have they mentioned to you the environmentally friendly change to the trash pickup/curbside recycling that has recently occurred? In the past, all trash in The Villages was trucked to a landfill in Georgia -- not anymore! And curbside recycling has also ended in order to pave the way for a new era in the handling of trash disposal and of recyclables.

In our September 2022 Eco-Friendly Newsletter, we brought to your attention the zero waste-to-landfill processes of a company called Covanta. And Covanta is now handling all of the trash and recycling from The Villages at the Covanta waste-to-energy plant in Okahumpka, FL. You may recall that Covanta and Subaru are partners dedicated to leading the way in zero waste-to-landfill practices.

Residents of The Villages simply place all their trash and recyclables in plastic bags and set the bags out on the curb on the designated trash collection day. There is no longer a need to keep the trash separate from the recyclables. The bags are picked up and transported to the waste-to-energy plant, at which time the contents are inspected, sorted, and incinerated. The resulting energy is transmitted to local utility companies. You can refresh your memory about the details and watch the process here.
