Lauren M. Kurtz, Esq., Editor

IN MEMORIAM

Former Tax Section Chair Harris L. Bonnette Jr. of Saint Johns passed away on December 29, 2023, at the age of 60. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues. No services are scheduled at this time.

Harris practiced law with Fisher, Tousey, Leas & Ball in Jacksonville.

After earning his LL.M. in Taxation degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Harris became an attorney with the Internal Revenue Service Chief Counsel’s Office, first in Austin, Texas, and then in Jacksonville. He was a partner at two well-respected boutique tax law firms in Jacksonville before joining Fisher Tousey in 2011. Harris was Florida Bar board certified in Tax Law and was a well-respected authority in numerous practice areas. He frequently lectured on topics in tax controversies and trust and estate disputes.

Starting with his 2003 appointment to the Executive Council, Harris served in many Tax Section leadership roles, including Co-Director of Education, Director of Long Range Planning, Secretary, Treasurer, and 2021–2022 Chair.

Harris will be missed for his legal acumen, his kindness and respect for others, and most of all, his friendship. Learn more about Harris here.
