Dear Stanwich Families,

I am pleased to advise that the legal formalities necessary to finalize the combination of The Stanwich School and The Greenwich Country Day School should be completed next week.   In the meantime, we have been working diligently at putting together the framework for the integration of the two schools, the expansion and renovation of the Stanwich campus and the high school curriculum planning process.   To coordinate these activities over the next 18 months, GCDS has recruited Stephanie Rogan, a former Stanwich parent and well-known education consultant.

Building upon a first career in finance and sales, Stephanie has done extensive work with schools and other non-profits concerning leadership, transitions, and organizational challenges.   The mother of four, Stephanie earned a BA degrees in Economics and Organizational Behavior from Brown and an EdM in Administration and Policy from Harvard. More complete information about Stephanie and her work is available on the website of Greenwich Leadership Partners.

The integration framework anticipates a steering committee and the establishment of several working committees, the members of which will include Stanwich and GCDS teachers, parents and former Stanwich trustees. I will communicate shortly in more detail the scope and membership of these committees.   Needless to say, the work of these committees is essential and this week their work begins in earnest.

Re-enrollment contracts will be available to current families at the end of this week in MY BACKPACK accounts.   A brief email notification will be sent out prior to their publication.   Financial aid families will have their contracts available in mid-February . Tuition for the 2018-2019 academic year reflects a 5% average tuition increase in keeping with the 5% increase already communicated by GCDS to its parents. We anticipate Stanwich fees (that are in addition to tuition) for the coming year will remain essentially unchanged, though some final adjustments may occur with trip fees (a slight reduction) and technology fees in order to align more smoothly with GCDS for the 2019-2020 academic year. Although GCDS and Stanwich tuitions for 2018-2019 are not the same at each grade level, the numbers allow us to meet our financial obligations and segue to a smooth overlap with GCDS for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Please remember to return completed reenrollment contracts with the deposit by the firm deadline. Upon the basis of the number of reenrollment contracts returned, our administration can then begin finalizing staffing plans for 2018-2019, which is fundamentally predicated upon student enrollment numbers. This is a particularly important matter for Primary, Intermediate and Junior Houses since Stanwich will not accept new students other than faculty children and siblings for the 2018-2019 academic year. Also on the basis of the re-enrollment numbers, we can determine any salary increases for Stanwich teachers in the coming year.

I have included a link to the 2018-2019 academic calendar. Although the next year's calendar remains very similar to the current calendar, it aligns with that of GCDS to facilitate integration efforts. The most significant change being a spring break a week later. The calendar also reflects a later recess for, and return from, winter holiday as part of the normal calendar cycle.

We hope you look forward to the exciting opportunities that await our community and especially our students and plan to reenroll for 2018-2019. As always if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know and we can arrange a time to discuss.

With sincere best wishes ,

Charles Sachs
