Introducing the Road Safety Champion Program!

The Road Safety Champion Program (RSCP), developed by the National Center for Rural Road Safety, the National Association of County Engineers (NACE), the West Region Transportation Workforce Center (WRTWC), and the National LTAP and TTAP Association (NLTAPA), is coming to Kentucky!

Beginning in February 2022, join us on the fourth Wednesday of each month for free webinars that will cover job-specific information as well as general safety topics. Road Safety Champions focus on doing their job safely, and we will provide you the tools to feel confident in promoting safety in any workplace. With diverse courses in maintenance, construction, engineering, and more, you will find one or many opportunities to learn. Complete the program requirements and you can earn a Road Safety Champion certificate.

Roads Scholar Road Master

Graduation

We celebrated our 2021 Road Scholars and Road Masters in December. We had a total of 214 Roads Scholars and 260 Road Masters.

These are the latest additions to the more than 4310 Roads Scholars and 3,441 Road Masters who have completed the Roads Scholar Road Master Program since 1998.

T2 held our second Virtual Graduation Ceremony. Graduates across the state joined via Zoom for a time of well-deserved recognition.

Deputy Secretary Mike Hancock expressed his congratulations and appreciation to local and state agencies for their hard work and resilience in the tornado response effort. Roads Scholars and Road Masters no doubt make up a large part of the relief efforts.

Two graduates were randomly chosen to win a prize package of UK merchandise. Congratulations to our BIG BLUE BOX winners, Stephanie Gibson with the City of Madisonville and John Stafford with KYTC District 12.

KACERS Meeting - January 30

The KACERS organization (Kentucky Association of County Engineers and Road Supervisors) will have a their annual business meeting in conjunction with KBT on Thursday, January 30, 2022. The meeting will be held at the Galt House in Louisville from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. The first half of the meeting will be a presentation from Greg Smith, Director of Education and Marketing at the Kentucky Concrete Association. Greg will discuss Innovative Concrete/Cement Pavement Solutions for County Engineers. Those that attend will receive .5 hour of professional development hours.

Lifesavers Webinar Series

The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety in partnership with an Executive Committee of professionals representing the four E’s (engineering, education, emergency services, and enforcement) have developed a series of webinars to bring together best practices, research and innovations to the transportation industry.

These webinars will be offered quarterly from

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. EST. The sessions will provide a glimpse of the great sessions you will see at the 2023 Kentucky Lifesavers Conference. Participants will receive one professional development hour (PDH) for each session they attend.

is an incoming freshman enrolled full time at the University of Kentucky;
is the son or daughter of either an attendee of the Kentucky Transportation Center Snow & Ice Removal course or any public works employee in the state of Kentucky; and
demonstrates financial need.

for a Chance to Win!

We are looking for projects that you, your employees or crew designed and built. Projects can be anything from the development of tools, equipment modification, and/or processes that increase safety, reduce cost, improve efficiency, and improve the quality of transportation.

Past winners for Kentucky include a Snow Plow Handler submitted by Marshall County and a Spray Bar submitted by Kenton County.

The winner for Kentucky will be elevated to complete for national recognition.
