Community Connect
January 2022

|
I want to thank all of our partners, donors, and volunteers for supporting Valley Cities through this emotionally and financially challenging year of 2021.
These times of uncertainty have tested our will, our character, our integrity, and our strength. We have all been confronted to quickly adapt and make bold decisions. Together, we remain resilient when pushed to our limits and beyond. I could not be prouder of the tireless perseverance of Valley Cities clients, staff, and community partners.

As we leave 2021 behind and enter a new year of challenges, excitement, and opportunities, it can be tempting to meet 2022 going at full throttle. With the stress of the holiday season still fresh on top of everything else that has been going on globally for the past two years, it is important to set some time aside to make sure you are monitoring and taking care of your mental wellness.
According to SAMHSA (the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) there are eight dimensions that factor into wellness.
Emotional:
Being aware of your feelings, respecting others feelings, and managing you emotions in healthy ways.
Environment:
Putting yourself in positive, stimulating environments.
Physical:
Taking care of your body by eating nutritious foods, drinking plenty of water, and exercising.
|
|
Spiritual:
Exploring your sense of purpose and meaning in life and knowing your value.
Financial:
Living within your means, setting attainable goals, and planning for the future.
Social:
Making meaningful connections, find a sense of belonging, and creating a strong support system of peers.
Occupational:
Finding meaning and value in what you do.
Intellectual:
Expanding your knowledge, passions, and skills.
Make sure you are taking some time to focus on your wellbeing. Exercising, getting enough sleep, laughing more, setting aside time to enjoy your hobbies, and living in the moment are all great ways to fortify your wellness.
If your mental well being is suffering or you're feeling overwhelmed, please reach out.

Community Partner Highlight
|
Valley Cities has recently partnered with T2P2 to supply our clinics with feminine hygiene products for clients.
T2P2, which stands for "Tower of Tampons and Pyramids of Pads," is an organization focused on raising awareness of the need for feminine hygiene products that many women in homeless and low income situations face. They additionally raise funds and products to donate to organizations serving the demographic.

Clinic Spotlight- Enumclaw
Our Enumclaw Clinic opened its doors in 2016 in downtown Enumclaw near the plateau on the way to Mount Rainer.
Even as one of Valley Cities' smaller clinics the services they provide to the community is huge. Using a team based, multidisciplinary approach, this team of 25 provides the highest level of quality care to over 300 individuals ages 15 on up.
Valley Cities Enumclaw works closely with Rainier Foothills Wellness Foundation and Plateau Outreach Ministries (other local community support both agencies) as well as Enumclaw Senior Center and Youth Center to help build a healthy community where everyone can realize their full potential.
This past year the Enumclaw Clinic has partnered with the Enumclaw Jail to provide mental health and substance use disorder services to the inmates. For more information on the program, check out the segment below.

Program Highlight
HealthierHere – Enumclaw Jail
Valley Cities has been growing its partnership with the Enumclaw City Jail to provide innovative programs to help reduce recidivism. In 2021, with HealthierHere funding, Valley Cities established an outreach program to serve incarcerated individuals at the Enumclaw City Jail. A Therapist and Peer Support Specialist were available for weekly outreaches to provide supportive counseling and resources, and the team provided crisis support as needed. As the year went on, a MATCH (Medical Assisted Treatment Community Health) Navigator was added to help address the large need for substance use treatment.
Because of this outreach program, Valley Cities built a strong partnership with the jail, joining a collaborative re-entry program to help people being released from jail connect with meaningful community resources. Valley Cities recently entered into a national, two-year study with the jail, with trained coaches who will help improve processes to refer people in need of medication assisted treatment.
We are extremely excited to watch this partnership grow and know it will be a major benefit to the community!

A BIG thank you to all of our 2021 donors and community partners that continue to provide support and drive our mission forward!
