Third Week of January Updates
Dear Wonderful Families,

This week we will be finalizing our re-registration for the 2020-2021 school year and upcoming SummerQuest Camp. This year, as in every year, we offer so many incredible opportunities for our students and families, as you can well see, from our quality educational programs to our amazing electives, from Infant programs through Grade Eight! Our reputation precedes us within the Greater Nashua Area and throughout our area of influence from Burlington, Massachusetts to Bow, New Hampshire and beyond. Every time we hear the accolades our school receives we are acutely aware of how important the families we serve figure into this equation. Because you all wish the best for your children, we perform to a higher level and consistently outscore, outrank and outservice other programs in the greater area. That is why we are sought after as a choice for our students.  As such, we have a waiting list for the upcoming school year and truly urge you to complete re-registration as soon as possible. The deadline, before we admit new students, is next Friday, January 31st.

As you get to know each of our teachers you learn about and understand why we have the value that we do in our community...and this demand grows every year. Our first responsibility is to you, our families, who we have in our World Academy Family, today. Please note that families who have been with us for years will continue to receive the loyalty rates we have instituted in our K-8 program along with our high-quality programs that are recognized locally and by our prestigious accrediting bodies- the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Our students are given a “world of opportunities’ that will enables them to go out into the world with confidence and competence. That is the World Academy advantage. Please make sure your plans are finalized so that we can continue to serve you and your family. After Friday we will begin enrolling new children to fill vacancies. If you have any questions, please see any one of our Administrative Leadership team. We are here to serve you!

Warmly,
Kathy and Lisa for all of us
President and Head of School
Periodically we send out surveys to find out how you think we are doing. Although we hear from many of you consistently, we want to hear from you all, if possible. Thank you for taking a few minutes to help us be the best we can be for your students. Your feedback is an important component of our self-assessment for growth and quality.
Thank you to donor,
Lee-Ann and Brandon Billingsley , who made a donation in honor of their son, Brandon , who is graduating this year!
Join us by giving  40 for World Academy’s 40th Anniversary! This year,  the World Academy Alumni Association is celebrating the 40th year anniversary of the founding of World Academy by participating in a donation drive! Since 1980, the school has educated and nurtured over 20,000 students, and we would like to honor that accomplishment by paying tribute to the students, teachers, alumni and special memories from our “World!”

We are aiming to celebrate this incredible 40-year legacy by attaining 40 gifts in honor of the 40 years of excellence.  Please consider donating a gift of any amount to the WA Alumni Association . All gifts designated to the  “40 for 40” will go directly to the WA Alumni Association’s Scholarship Fund to support a quality World Academy education to even more deserving students. Please consider this tax-deductible donation in honor of your wise investment in your child’s education as it will allow us to offer more quality, deserving students a chance to have a positive impact on your child’s “World!”.

Gifts can be donations of any denomination given in honor of a special current student, alumni, special teacher and/or special memory. If your company will match your donation, you will be doubling the good your gift will bring! We are grateful to announce that some of the companies that have shared our ‘World’ over the years have also offered to match individual donations as well. Please see the different levels of donations below and let us know how we can support your matching funds.

All  “40 for 40”  donors and honorees, unless designation of anonymous is preferred, will receive personal recognition in our special edition of  Coordinates that will highlight this banner year at World Academy. We thank you so much for the opportunity to celebrate our World Academy’s 40th Anniversary in this impactful way and to share our pride in the joy of what happens in our “World” every day!

Warmly,
The World Academy Alumni Association
in cooperation with the Administrative Leadership Team of World Academy

Most of our programs are full so this is an important consideration. Thank you!
Cubing at World Academy
Due to the rising interest in "cubing", two families have offered to pilot a team of World Academy Fifth Graders to learn more about formally competing in the cubing world so that World Academy might possibly have formal competition teams and an elective option in the future. Good luck to the Pilot Cubing Team who will be visiting Concord, MA this weekend, and special thank you to Ellen Haight and Miri Shpindler for undertaking this initiative! What supportive families and talented kids we have!!

Vacation Program Sign-Ups
Our  Vacation Program  is a safe and fun option available to any Kindergarten through Grade 8 student (even those who do not regularly attend World Academy) who is looking for a fun alternative during school vacations. This program supplements the days outside of the school calendar so a separate daily rate applies. It is filled with lots of age appropriate, fun activities for all ages and staffed by our World Academy team. In order for us to properly plan/staff our programs, advanced sign-up is required for the days your child will attend, and there will not be any refunds for unused days. Space is limited and will be filled on a first come/first served basis. Registration will close one week prior to the vacation day or once the spaces are filled.

Seen Around Our 'World'
We love to know what our students and families are up to outside of school! If you have something you would like to share, please don't hesitate to share it with us! Click here to email us your photos with details for us to post! We especially love to hear (and brag!) about student accomplishments outside of school! We love sharing ALL about each of our students!
Our January Recognition and Awards Assembly took place this week, featuring Mrs. Tully's Kindergarten students performing about Tolerance. We recognized the K-3 students who showed that character trait and our NorthStar Award winners, Zanayah Kilgore and Sonia Kelkar. Congratulations! Also highlighted at this event were our Spelling Bee winners, our Math Team for their results in the AMC 8, and our Robotics Teams. We are, as always, so proud of our NorthStars!!
Professional Development – Teachers Focus on the Four Cs!
On Wednesday, Angela Hehir (Director of ECE Programs) and the teachers of the Early Childhood Program came together to discuss 21st Century Skills and collaborated about how to continue to incorporate them into their curriculum and daily routines. These skills of collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and communication are imperative for this generation of students as they migrate from the school setting to enter the work force. The teachers worked together to come up with ways to extend learning for all age levels to target these important skills. Thank you to our amazing ECE Team for continuously striving for the best for our youngest students! They certainly have a bright future ahead of them because of your dedication! Our staff is always working hard to keep our student’s curriculum on the cutting edge and relevant!!

Mrs. Iannone's Graphic Design elective tasked students to develop their own toothpaste brand. Our creative students came up with some great concepts!
Our Preschool Fours Funky Monkeys have embraced the chilly weather during their study of the Arctic! The students made paper plate narwhals, rescued animals from the frozen ice using different types of water (warm, salted, and dyed water), practiced Arctic animal yoga in Gym and experimented with blubber! The class also used teamwork to help Miss Lisa build a giant igloo out of straw connectors. They have enjoyed playing in the not-so-chilly structure with different materials all week!
BOKS Session 2 has started!! These little athletes are ready to work for healthy minds and bodies!
The first session of Afterschool Theater/Drama concluded last week with their wonderful performances! Our youngest performers in Grades K and 1 bravely took to the stage (many for the first time!), while our Grades 2-4 actors brilliantly memorized their lines, knew their positions and even managed to help backstage! From set arrangement to execution - Bravo!!! Congratulations to all, including Mr. Michael, who is an old hat at these performances!!
Our Middle School students "stepped up" to try out their next class levels this week during Step Up Day! The students had a great time doing activities with their "new" teachers, such as math tic tac toe, building a tower with no verbal communication, an origami paper folding challenge that yielded different interpretations, and more!
Upstairs in the Middle School you can check out the  new Hydroponic Garden across from the elevator! In our Middle School Science Classes, Mrs. St Lawrence and Mrs. Rubino have begun to introduce what Hydroponics are, how they work, and the benefits that we can get from them. Most students were surprised to learn that plants could be grown year-round and without soil!

Our garden, which will be tended to by students through assigned responsibilities, will be growing kale, dill, a variety of lettuce, flowers, and tomatoes. In addition to trying the fruits and vegetables grown, Mrs. St Lawrence's classes will measure and graph plant growth, compare the various plantings to observe their sprout and final growth times, and explore the differences in the time frames of the growth cycles. We look forward to sharing more about this sustainable addition to our curriculum soon!
The  Middle School  Ski/Snowboarding/Skating/Circuit Training Program is in full swing! We love seeing the confidence and camaraderie build among the students as this program progresses. This is a fantastic example of using community resources to the fullest and we thank the chaperones who join us in making this an exemplary program for our students!
Our team building challenge this week was a twist on "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes". Students ran a relay from one end of the Gymnasium to the other in pairs. The challenge was to keep a ball balanced between their heads, shoulders, knees and then toes! Simple!
When your Spirit Squad coach is also a ballroom dancer, your conditioning practice turns into a salsa lesson!
