Greetings From The School President
Hello Wonderful Families,

World Academy has many advantages over other schools. One such is that, although we would not need to be licensed and annually inspected by the state of NH, we DO voluntarily, because we feel it is important for you to know that many organizations are belling the cat for you here, such as our two accrediting agencies and the State Bureau of Child Care Licensing. These are expensive to achieve and maintain but important, so YOU can be assured you are getting the high quality your child deserves. Many programs say they offer things but do not really provide them... and often our children are too young to advocate for themselves. Some schools chose NOT to be licensed or inspected by the state. I hope you all are aware of such important measures of quality and understand how far we go, through licensing and two national accreditations, to give you the peace of mind that you and your children deserve. This is just another way we are living our mission to put families and children’s needs first in our “World.”

Have a great weekend!
Warm Regards,
Kathy

A Note From The Head of School
Greetings World Academy Families,

It was a busy week in our 'World'! On Tuesday, our Middle School students and teachers kicked off their five-week winter adventure with activities such as skiing and snowboarding at Pats Peak, skating at Conway Arena, and trekking through Mine Falls. To learn more about the goals of the program and to catch the groups in action, make sure to check out the photos below! Another highlight that you might want to take a look at is our Kindergarteners participating in their Robotics curriculum. World Academy is one of the only schools in New Hampshire that has a robotics program embedded into our curriculum for students in Kindergarten through Grade Eight. We will round out the week with a Kindergarten-Grade 8 Admissions Open House event on Saturday at 10:00am. Please join us and spread the word to any interested families.

Have a restful weekend.
Best,
  Lisa
Dr. Lisa Dias, Head of School

Join us for our K-8 Admissions Open House!
Saturday, January 12th from 10-11 AM

We will be holding a K-8 Open House on  Saturday, January 12th from 10-11 AM for prospective families and current families who are interested in learning more about the next level at World Academy!

Did you know that our  Elementary-aged students take  two World Languages beginning in Kindergarten, when most schools don't offer it until Grade 8 or that our  Robotics, Art, and Music curricula begin in Kindergarten and continue through Grade 8? The World Academy " Cradle to Careers" Roadmap intentionally builds students into thinkers, doers, dreamers, and do-gooders by building competencies in 21st century and interpersonal skills that most schools don't value as part of their curriculum.

We pride ourselves on our  positive culture and  diverse offerings that are unlike any other school, and we hope that you will join us for our K-8 Open House to see how your child can flourish in our enriching environment!
Can't make the weekend Open Houses? No problem! We have two special Open Houses for our families to learn more about the next level:

  • Wednesday, January 23rd: Future Kindergarten Open House Night 4:30-6:00pm
  • Wednesday, February 6th: Future Kindergarten through Grade 4 Open House Night 4:30-6:00pm

These Open Houses take place during our operating hours, so your child can remain in care while you get a chance to speak with the teachers and administration! We look forward to seeing you there!
Chess Club Upcoming Event
World Academy will be hosting a NH Scholastic Chess Tournament on Saturday, January 19th from 9:00am until 4:00pm. Best of luck to Mr. Kilgour and some of his Chess Club members who will be participating in this event! Go, NorthStars!
2019 RE-REGISTRATION NOTE
Information Regarding Re-Registration For The 2019-2020 School Year
As we unveil the next phase of our RenWeb/FACTS system, our re-registration will be taking place ONLINE, making it easier for families to complete. This process is something that many families have been asking for, and we are excited to be moving our systems and processes into the 21st century. We are currently working behind the scenes with RenWeb/FACTS to get the registration portal ready to launch the second week of February. Going digital will streamline the process, allowing us to shorten the re-registration period to two weeks. More details to follow in the next few weeks.
Reminders & Requests
The school calendar is currently being prepared for next year for your scheduling pleasure!
From The PTO
The PTO is seeking any parent/person with expertise in the sport of cricket to help us coordinate a Cricket Fellowship Event at World Academy this spring. If you have any interest, or know of anyone who might be able to help, please email the PTO at [email protected]. Thank you!
World Academy POLICY REGARDING THE USE OF GLASS CONTAINERS
Recently we have had a few incidents in which children’s glass lunch containers and water bottles have fallen and shattered all over the floor in the classroom and lunch room, posing a safety risk to our children. In the interest of our children’s safety, we are implementing a new policy that prohibits the use of glass containers in school. We understand that there are benefits to using containers that are not plastic and for that reason we suggest that families consider something similar to the following at https://ecolunchboxes.com . We hope you are able to find an appropriate substitute. Thank you, in advance, for following this policy.
Uniform Store
In the next few weeks we will be launching our online uniform store via Red Brick which will carry many new items that will become part of our Middle School Uniform Policy for the 2019-2020 school year. We have had some interest from students for items, such as our plaid skirt and comfortable gym uniforms. These items will be available for purchase this month for any student who would like to incorporate them into their wardrobe this year and become required next year. More details regarding the updated Middle School Uniform Policy for 2019-2020 will be available with re-registration.
World Academy K-8 Penny Challenge
The Penny Challenge is underway! This K-8 classroom fundraising challenge has been updated for 2019. This year, in addition to pennies, now nickels, dimes, one and five dollar bills add points, while ten and twenty dollar bills subtract points. Classmates help their team by adding pennies, nickels, dimes, one and five dollar bills to their classroom’s containers to ADD points and by placing ten and twenty dollar bills into other classrooms’ containers to DEDUCT points .

The challenge runs until January 16th, and the TOP Classes in Grades K-3 and in Grades 4-8 will each earn a special prize! This fundraiser is hosted by the Eighth Grade Class, and all proceeds will support their trip to Washington, D.C in May!
NorthStars Nation
Basketball Update
Our NorthStars Basketball Teams have both had ups and downs this week. Our Boys had a tough game at home versus Cawley, but won yesterday against Bow, while our Girls had a strong showing against Cawley but lost to Bow in a hard fought game.
One thing is for sure, we are so proud of how our NorthStars conduct themselves at their games. Whether winning or losing, we are always impressed by their teamwork and sportsmanship! Check out the great shot below of our student athletes working on homework prior to their away game yesterday. These are some dedicated NorthStars!

Seen Around Our 'World'
We love to know what our students and families are up to outside of school! If you have something you would like to share, please don't hesitate to share it with us! Click here to email us your photos with details for us to post! We especially love to hear (and brag!) about student extracurricular accomplishments out of school! We love sharing ALL about each of our students!
Congratulations to Infant Teacher, Ms. Priyanka, who just returned from celebrating her wedding in India!
We wish the best of luck to our Middle School students who participated in the National History Bee qualifier on Thursday morning, and we look forward to receiving the results in the next few weeks!
Our 2019 Alumni Reunion was a huge success! It was so great to see students return to visit on their winter breaks and to catch up with what these successful students have all been up to. HUGE thank you to our Alumni Association for hosting this event, and Zeina Eyceoz, in particular, and we look forward to next year's!
The Middle School Ski/Ride Program for the 2019 Season started this past Tuesday. For students not participating at Pats Peak, some students went to Ice Skate at Conway Arena or to Outdoor Trekking Adventures at Mine Falls!
Some of the goals of the Ski/Snowboarding/Skating/Trekking Program include:
building self-confidence, increasing physical fitness, taking on new challenges, developing team building skills and peer relationships, developing an athletic skill that can last a lifetime, and fostering independence and accountability.
The students in the Middle School participating in the non-ski program took part in a team building exercise called "Sneak a Peek". This activity asked teams to use building, conversation, memory and teamwork skills to complete a challenge.
Mrs. Spaulding's Kindergarten students had their first Robotics session this week! The introductory session was supported by two Middle School students, Emily and Angelina, who helped the Kindergarteners with their coding apps.
The Fourth Grade French students had a chance to learn about and try la Galette des Rois. La Galette des Rois is a traditional French cake that is also referred to as a “king cake”. It is made of a homemade almond cream filling sandwiched between two delicate, buttery layers of puff pastry and always has a trinket, called la fève (“bean”), baked into it. La Galette des Rois is baked throughout January until Mardi Gras in France. During the classroom celebration, Megan found la fève. Félicitations, Megan, et vive la Galette!
The Second Graders had a special field trip to our Principal’s office! Mrs. Kirk enthusiastically shared a Flat Stanley project done by her daughter, Emma, when she was in Second Grade, and as a kick off to their dinosaur unit, they saw a dino-mite geometric dinosaur! The students loved seeing the connection to the topics they have been studying!
Ms. Bishop's Cooking Around The World elective actually learned about Ms. Bishop's family's holiday traditions and learned to make a delicious drink that is made every holiday at Ms. Bishop's house to celebrate the new year. Cheers!
