Almost eighteen months ago, I came home to West Nottingham Academy as the new Head of School after being away for twenty years. The decision to return was easy - of the many educational institutions at which I have worked, WNA is different. The impact on students' lives is transformational; the staff is invested at a level I haven't seen at other schools; and very consistently across the decades, West Nottingham believes in the incredible potential of every single child who steps foot onto campus.
I hear the same thing from almost every alum with whom I speak. Thank you for those of you who have taken the time to zoom, visit campus, or have a phone conversation with me. Your stories are inspiring, and as I look at the current student body, your journey reinforces to me the tremendous possibilities that lie within each student. And I often share this quotation from a WNA alum, "West Nottingham believed in me before I believed in myself."
You are an important member of this community, and you will be forever. Naturally, I would like all of you to be engaged. There are multiple ways in which you can be involved. Here are a dozen ideas, in no particular order:
1. Keep up with campus news and share your news in class notes. Email Scootie at
sdabbs@wna.org
2. Proudly wear your WNA gear and promote your alma mater! Shop for your gear
at SquadLocker
3. Tell your WNA story. Send your story to Laura at lbienkowski@wna.org
4. Like, comment, and share our social media posts.
5. Refer a family, talk us up with your friends and colleagues.
6. Share your athletic participation - we're creating a database to document
the history of teams, the participants, and noteworthy moments
7. Share your professional journey - for our alumni spotlight or speak with the
student body or a class in person or via zoom. Email Sandy at
swirth@wna.org
8. Mentor a student through our Aspire program. Email Sandy at
swirth@wna.org
9. Attend Homecoming
10. Attend Alumni weekend (June 10 - 11, 2023 - you're among the first to know
since you've read this far!) Save the date and tell your classmates!
11. Give a gift to the annual fund to support academic programs, faculty
development, athletics, the arts, and student enrichment.
12. Give a big gift and we'll name a building or program for you!
Thank you for being an important part of this amazing school community!
Sandy
