January
Chapter 1 of 12
Welcome to 2020, the start of a fresh year. Time to write 12 new chapters. January offers a few programs to get us back into the swing of things after the business of the holidays.

January 29th - 31st library staff will be away. It's the annual Ontario Library Association Conference in Toronto. We look forward to this opportunity to learn from other libraries, and find ways to enhance, improve, and expand the services we offer you - our patrons.

As always, thank you for making the library a part of your life.

Silver Birch 2020!
The Silver Birch Reading Club for children in the grades 3 to 6 age range is offered at all three branches of the Selwyn Library. The Ontario Silver Birch Award reading program was established in 1994 to encourage Ontario children to read more, to learn more about Canadian writers and to develop powers of evaluation. Silver Birch is a Forest of Reading program (the Forest of Reading is Canada's largest recreational reading program) where young readers have the unique opportunity to vote on the best nominated book by Canadian authors for their age group. Children meet with library staff and volunteers to talk about the nominated books, listen to speakers from our community, participate in activities based on this year's books and sign out books to read at home. Children require a library card (free) to be a Silver Birch Club member and check out the books for the program. At the end of the program the children vote for their favourite author if they have read 5/10 titles in their chosen category and we have a pizza party.
