Massachusetts is heralded for its many firsts, including the beginning of the American Revolution. Featured Region: North Central Mass

Winter in North Central Massachusetts is full of fun ways to get out and enjoy the season! Take a magical horse-drawn sleigh ride at Cornerstone Ranch or spend the day skiing at Wachusett Mountain. Warm up indoors with family fun at Great Wolf Lodge or discover beautiful and thought-provoking exhibits at the Fitchburg Art Museum. Craft beer fans can relax at Wachusett Brewing Company, while outdoor lovers embrace the season on a guided winter hike with North County Land Trust. Be sure to check out Westminster’s Tree Burning Party. Drop off your Christmas tree after the holidays, then gather on January 10 for the big burn, complete with hot cocoa and sweet treats. End the day with live music at Groton Hill Music or The Bull Run Restaurant, and enjoy the many diverse dining options throughout the region.

Martha's Vineyard

Come to Martha’s Vineyard in January to find cheer and light! Cold sunny Vineyard days on trails, beaches illuminate the soul and lift spirits. Enjoy harpist/singer Aine Mongue’s concert (1/3 at 2 pm); Full Moon Owl-Prowl (1/3 at 4:15 pm); Chef’s Table Dinner (1/7). Explore Vineyard hiking and beach trails across the island; foliage-free trails mean eye-popping terrain and ocean views. The Environmental Explorers Afterschool connects students ages 7-14 with Felix Neck’s natural gifts. Cheese 101: Guided Tasting at MV Cheesery is another fun option (1/22; 5-6:30 pm).

Mohawk Trail Region

The Clark Art Institute will offer free admission for all visitors from January through March 2026. During the free admission season, visitors will have the opportunity to tour the Clark’s noted permanent collection and special exhibitions, Shadow Visionaries-French Artists Against the current, 1840-70 (open to March 8), Paginations :Gridlocked: The Geometry of Weaving (open to May 17), Raffaella della Olga: Typescript (open to May 31), Groundworks 2025 (open to October 12), Sónia Almeida: Stages (opening February 14).

MetroWest

New Year, New Adventures await! Learn a new skill at Danforth Art Museum’s Sculpture Maker Space 1/11 or at the Post Road Art Center’s Watercolor Class on 1/15. Experience the Battle of the Bulge reenactment at the American Heritage Museum 1/17-18. Listen to the blues at Hopkinton Center for the Arts 5th Annual Bluesfest 1/17, catch the cover band Between the Waves at Craftroots 1/24 or the warm notes of Symphony Pro Musica’s concert on 1/24.

Nantucket

Join Discover Gloucester and the Cape Ann Museum for the 5th annual Gloucester’s So Salty festival on January 24 & 25, from 10 am to 4 pm. Celebrate the fish city’s recognizably salty character during this free two-day event which includes ice sculptures, live music, salty treats, free kids’ art activities, and much more. Lift your spirits and laugh the cold away at Salem’s Comedy and Spirits Festival January 21–24, featuring top local and national performing comedians and locally crafted spirits.

The Company Theatre in Norwell will get people moving January 16-25 with “Once Upon A One More Time!”  Powered by the mega-hits of Britney Spears, this performance gives our favorite fairytales a clever twist. The arts are alive this winter on Cape Cod! Opening January 10 and running through February 22, the Cotuit Center for the Arts hosts the family-friendly winter art exhibit “DREAM BIG.” The interactive exhibit, which features artists' interpretation of this theme, is geared towards younger patrons, with work hung lower than standard. Then, on January 24-25, the Cape Symphony Orchestra presents "Passport to Vienna" at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center in Hyannis.
