The iSOSY consortium is happy to present the first issue of “Monthly Resources for the MEP”. Each message will provide timely resources specific to that particular month, as well as resources created by iSOSY to use with your migratory students during that time of year.

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Learn more about this important topic at the U.S. Department of State site HERE.

The FBI has put out some summer safety tips for parents that are in Spanish. Please share out to parents in your program. Even though it is not summer, it is good to keep youth safety in mind all year long.

Do you know the international hand signal of distress? If not, you should learn and teach your students as well. This simple signal could save a life. The signal is performed by holding your hand up with your thumb tucked into your palm, then folding your fingers down, symbolically trapping your thumb in your fingers. It was intentionally designed as a single continuous hand movement, rather than a sign held in one position, that could be made easily visible.

A good time to focus on goal setting with OSY and At-Risk students is the month of January, the month known for setting annual resolutions. You can help your students break down their goals into manageable steps so those goals become attainable.

You will find what you need in our Goal Setting resources on the iSOSY website (www.osymigrant.org). The resources include service provider training that offers a powerpoint and scenarios that can help us all feel more confident in our ability to provide goal setting workshops to the students we serve.
