Michael Trepal, DPM, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Academic Dean at NYCPM,
was honored as Metropolitan’s ‘Employee of the Month’ by Ms. Alina Moran, Executive Director of Metropolitan Hospital Center. According to Ms. Moran, this award was given following commendations received from a grateful patient who was cared for by Dr. Trepal, who stated that “in reality the award truly belongs to our entire staff, who work hard to care for patients and educate students and residents.”
Metropolitan Hospital is one of 11 acute-care inpatient hospitals in the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation. Dr. Trepal
also serves as section chief for podiatry at Metropolitan, which is the major clinical teaching campus for the College’s students and residents; NYCPM faculty provide comprehensive podiatric care in all outpatient, inpatient and emergency settings. The hospital also serves as co-sponsor for NYCPM’s residency program.

Lorraine Chun Ng, BS, MLIS

Lorraine Chun Ng
received her BS in secondary education from the University at Albany, and took courses toward an MPH degree at Hunter College. With that background, she spent over 20 distinguished years in public health, working for the New York City Department of Health,
Division of Family Health. She worked with programs relating to child health, specifically she supervised an infant health and assessment program, which followed high-risk babies at HHC (e.g., premature babies, low-birthweight infants diagnosed with neonatal abstinence syndrome i.e. babies born with positive toxicology due to their mother’s drug use) until age one.

Bryan Kagan, DPM (’80), Passes Away
Bryan Kagan, DPM
, a member of NYCPM’s Class of 1980, passed away in mid-January. Dr. Kagan was an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Community Medicine for over 10 years. He taught ‘Introduction to Forensic Podiatry,’ a course popular with second- and third-year students and many others. That course introduced students to the world of forensic sciences and the discipline of forensic podiatry, a subspecialty of podiatric medicine. Students were instructed on basic techniques to assist in the criminal and civil investigation process. NYCPM was the only podiatric medical school to offer this course.

Trustees Donate to Scholarship Funds
Mr. Gabriel P. Caprio,
Chairman of NYCPM’s Board of Trustees, and Trustee
Kathleen Reilly Fallon, DPM (’94)
, donated to their namesake student scholarship funds in December 2019. Mr. Caprio gave to the Gabriel and Jerilyn Caprio Scholarship Fund, and Dr. Reilly Fallon donated to the Dr. Kathleen Reilly Fallon Scholarship Fund. Both scholarships are presented at the College’s annual awards ceremony in May.

Fischman, Class of 1962, Dies
Edward Fischman, DPM (’62),
passed away on January 13
th
at age 81. He practiced in Jupiter, FL, and practiced with his son, David, for 30 years. Dr. Fischman was past president of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the New York State Podiatric Medical Association. He was Chairman of the New Podiatric Medical Association's Clinical Conference, Chairman of the SE Florida Health Council, and former Team Podiatrist to NFL (Buffalo Bills) and NBA (Buffalo Braves).
