Welcome to CBRL’s first newsletter for 2021.
We hope that you and your loved ones continue to stay well during these uncertain times.
Due to the ongoing circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, our funding of research remains on hold. But calls for our Networking Partnership Awards remain open, more information below. We aim to open applications for funding for our fellowships and other awards in spring.
We are currently putting together a programme of webinars for 2021, featuring the latest world-class research on the Levant. If you have missed any of our previous webinars, you can catch up via our YouTube and SoundCloud pages. If you are interested in hosting an event with CBRL, please get in touch.
From all at CBRL.

New research published on refugee vulnerability in Azraq camp
Dr Melissa Gatter, a 2018 CBRL travel grant recipient, has recently published an article in Territory, Politics, Governance on research funded by CBRL. Her article explores how humanitarian assessments of vulnerability in Azraq camp, in Jordan, create a system that preserves vulnerability and drives securitised responses. Read the full article here. You can also read Melissa's blog on how Syrian refugees are adapting to life in Azraq camp.

ACOR photo archive project
Our friends at the American Center of Research (ACOR) have provided some interesting insights and reflections on their photo archive project. Encompassing the indexing, digitisation, description, and online publication of 31,000 photographs, the archive is a valuable resource for the international research community. Last year, the archive provided 700 photographs to the CBRL-partnered Living Museum of Umm Qais project. We congratulate ACOR for this achievement and for sharing their insights and experience. We encourage everyone to check out this great resource.
