CLIMATE CHANGE - ILLINOIS COAL POLLUTION
Few people realize that energy coming to the Cities of St Charles, Batavia and Geneva is from the biggest coal polluter in Illinois, Prairie State. The City of St. Charles is currently deciding whether to extend its coal-powered energy contract until 2055 or explore cleaner, cost-effective alternatives.
Climate change is creating weather extremes. We have seen firsthand the devastation of California and the Atlantic coast communities because of these extremes. People are losing homes and the ability to sell their homes because insurance companies are folding. Aside from the tragic loss of life and invaluable loss of family mementos, the cost to insure is increasing for all of us. Signing up for another 20 years on top of the current 10 years already contracted with coal doesn't make sense. We are all affected by these decisions.
