Everglades National Park
Saturday, January 9; 7:30am-4pm

Angel and Mariel Abreu will lead this all day carpool trip. Meet in the parking lot of the Coe Visitor Center at Everglades National Park at 7:30am. There is an entrance fee to the park. Remember to pack lunch (and bring it with you).


North Florida Birding (5 Spaces Left)
Friday, January 15-18

Brian Rapoza and Paul Bithorn will lead this four day, three-night van trip to the Tallahassee area. Costs ($495.00 per person double occupancy: $150.00 single supplement) include hotel and van/gas. 


Crandon Park Birding
Saturday, January 16; 8am-11am

Rangel Diaz will take participants out for a morning of shore and seabird identification and monitoring along Key Biscayne's Atlantic coast. This is the best location in Miami-Dade to view Piping, Semipalmated and Wilson's Plovers together at the same time. Afterwards, the group will bird the Crandon Gardens for any passerines present. Meet at 8:00am at the southern end of the Crandon Park South Beach Parking Lot (closest to the gardens). Costs include an entrance fee to the park and the Rickenbacker Causeway toll.


North Broward Birding 
Saturday, January 23 8am-3pm

John Hutchison will lead this all-day carpool trip to birding locations in northern Broward County. Meet at 8:00am at Tall Cypress Natural Area. From Florida's Turnpike, exit at Sample Road (Exit 69). Drive west 3 miles to Turtle Run Blvd. Turn right and drive north 0.2 miles to the park entrance. Bring lunch.
 

South Dade Birding
Saturday, January 30 7:30am-4pm

Raul Urgelles will lead this carpool trip, which may include stops at Lucky Hammock, Castellow Hammock and Dump Marsh. Meet at 7:30am in the parking lot of the Coe Visitor Center at Everglades National Park. No fee. Bring lunch.

SMartists present "By Land, Sea & Air"

The period parlor at our charming Doc Thomas House headquarters is transformed into a vibrant art gallery as 5th Grade  South Miami K-8 Center  "SMartists" present their exceptional works in a mixed media  "By Land, Sea & Air"  exhibit. Join  Art Teacher Deana Conley  and her talented "SMartists" for their opening night reception. The Nature-inspired exhibit will hang through January in our National Register of Historic Places and Miami-Dade County Landmark cottage. Art Nite also features our Donation Bird Bar! 

Bonus:  Park for free on our Steinberg Nature Center grounds via our 55th Avenue entry gate and use TAS as your ArtWalk home base for the evening. 

Thirty percent of the proceeds from the sale of all art benefit Tropical Audubon Society.

Everglades Coalition Annual Conference

This year's conference "Voices of the Everglades: All for Restoration" challenges each of us to bring our individual voice and perspective to the important mission of restoring America's Everglades. The re is much work to be done, but with diverse and passionate support we can work together toward our shared goal of an abundant, healthy Everglades.

Help TAS steward our  Porter  Russell Pine Rockland, an 8-acre property in South Miami-Dade County, one of the few remaining tracts of globally imperiled Pine Rockland habitat remaining outside of Everglades National Park. 

Please bring sunscreen, your water bottle, and wear closed toed-shoes. We will provide water.

Miami Pine Rockland Coalition Meeting @TAS

Miami Tiger Beetle by Al Sunshine
The MPRC will meet to plan for Wednesday's Public Hearing between 6 & 9pm at Miami - Dade College's  Kendall Campus, to allow Public Comments about the US Fish and Wildlife Services' recent proposal to list the Miami Tiger Beetle and its Pine Rocklands Home under the US Endangered Species Act.

This will be the ONLY face to face chance to tell Federal Officials why the Miami Tiger Beetle and its home needs to be protected, and our concerns about shrinking Pine Rockland Habitat here.

DTH Workday
Learn about indigenous plants and help us maintain our near-native landscape at the Steinberg Nature Center on the TAS campus. We need you!  Restoration Days are held on the 3rd Saturday of every month. We're flexible -- show up when you can, between 8:30 am and noon -- you will find a host of conservationists, birders, plant lovers and gardeners just like you lending a hand.

We come together to do the little things that make a big difference, and to tackle the big things that take a village on the 4th Wednesday of every month. Help us peck away at the challenging  conservation issues of our time. With your assistance, we can build capacity, infrastructure and increase our reach!  

Please collaborate in and contribute to our Mission to  conserve South Florida's wildlife, habitats and natural resources. You don't need to be a scientist or TAS member to know that clean water, green space and solar energy are good things. 

  
Conservation Concert

Take Sixx  inaugurates the  2016 Conservation Concert (ConCon) season, returning to the Doc Thomas House Keystone Stage for the 7th consecutive year and filling the evening air with classic and contemporary hits.  
Jefe's Tacos & Burgers  food truck will offer its signature Baja-inspired dishes.

$10 donation, children free |  Picnic tables available on a first-come basis.

Parking: Limited free parking in our lot via 55th Avenue gate and along 56th Avenue; metered parking on Sunset Drive; various garage and valet parking options within 1-3 blocks; Metro-rail service to South Miami Station.
