CHAMBER CHAMPIONS

The Mississippi Food Network recently selected Pillow Academy as the 2024 Volunteer of the Year. Coach Prather and students attended a reception where they were recognized and received the award. Throughout the school year, students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades travel to Jackson to serve at the Food Network by packing meal kits that are distributed throughout the state. PA students pack around 50,000 meal kits a year. Congratulations!

We want to recognize our Chamber Partners! If you, your business or an employee of your business has recently received some special recognition, we want to hear from you. Send a photo along with a brief writeup to kosborn@greenwoodms.com. We will include it in an upcoming newsletter!

Happy New Year!

It seems so odd to say that. The year 2024 went by so fast – if you blinked, you might have missed it!

As I reflect on last year, I’m forever grateful for so many things, but most of all for YOU. Our community is so gracious and generous. You all have supported so many of our events, programs and services that we do, and I can promise you, it does not go unnoticed. Without the community, our Chamber would not be as engaged and involved as we are. Not only your membership investment, but your sponsorship dollars are critical to continuing the effort to make our community better every single day.

Wrapping up our very busy December, we discovered that the community LOVED our inaugural Delta Dickens event, so we hope to plan that as an annual event and make it even bigger and better this next year. We love trying out new things, and this was a home run hit. Thanks to all who supported this event, especially our sponsors Bank of Commerce, Cannon Motors of Mississippi, the Greenwood Convention & Visitors Bureau, Ferguson Audio & Video/Ferguson Security and Finchers Inc.

As we look forward to this year, I am excited to reveal some new things we will be doing, including working with Proof, a company that specializes in restaurant and food services support and development. We have such a remarkable food scene here in our community, and Proof will only enhance what we have by working with existing chefs, wait staff and owners to improve their existing operations. Who knows what great ideas and possibly new things might come out of that effort? We are excited to partner with our Greenwood-Leflore Industrial Board, our Greenwood Convention and Visitors Bureau and the City of Greenwood to offer this service. We feel that strongly about our food culture here, and we hope that our area restaurants will take advantage of it. The first meeting for restaurants and food service operators will be on Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. here at the Chamber building. This year-long program is FREE and open to anyone in the local restaurant and food service business.

We are also already making plans for more Women In Business events, as well as our usual events that bring so many tourists and locals alike out to enjoy our city. We will be doing more workforce-centered work alongside the Economic Development Foundation, and we have signed the biggest Leadership Greenwood class that we’ve had in years. We’ve also reestablished our Greenwood-Leflore Young Professionals group, and they have hit the ground running and have BIG plans for 2025, so if your company has employees between 25-40 who want to get involved in that, please reach out to us. Exciting times, for sure!

But first, our Chamber Honors Annual Meeting/Business Expo and Taste of Greenwood is set for Tuesday, Jan. 28 at the Civic Center. This is one of the most attended business events of the year. It’s a great time of celebration, great food highlighting many of our local restaurants, and recognizing those who do and have done so much for Greenwood and Leflore County. Tickets and tables are on sale now. Visit our website link here: Tickets OR call the Chamber at 662.453.4152 to reserve your spot. Tickets and tables are already selling fast!

If you’re not involved with us, we’d love to have you come and work alongside with us on any number of our many events and programs that we do all throughout the year. Maybe you’ve just been paying dues, and that’s it. Maybe now’s the time for you to jump in and get busy with us. Many hands make light work, and we know that to be true. We’re all in this together, and together we can make a difference here. Are you in for 2025?

See you soon!

Beth
