Mountain View Awarded two Decarbonization Grants
The City of Mountain won grant funds from Silicon Valley Clean Energy, totaling $567,000 for two decarbonization projects!

The first grant provides $497,000 to electrify the City’s Senior Center, converting the water heaters and kitchen to all-electric systems. This project will use the City’s facility as an example electrification project, while serving the 150 seniors who utilize the facility daily.

The second grant provides $70,000 to engage the community and local organizations in the co-development of building electrification outreach and engagement strategies. The City will engage with communities that speak languages other than English, renters, and other traditionally underserved populations to advance building electrification as a community.

Planning for the two projects will begin in early 2023.

Mountain View Reach Code Updated
At its December 13th Meeting, the City Council unanimously passed the Mountain View Reach Code, which sets building electrification and electric vehicle infrastructure requirements for all new buildings in our community. The Reach Code will go into effect in early 2023. For details, see the meeting materials, available here.

Save the Date: Citywide Garage Sale May 6 - 7

The Citywide Garage sale is back! The City will once again coordinate this annual event that takes place at homes throughout Mountain View. Join hundreds of residents holding garage sales at their homes, rain or shine, and help our community keep reusable items out of the landfill. Registration for participating sellers will open in March. Visit MountainView.gov/GarageSale for more information and to register.
Don’t Trash It!

Remember, paper and other natural fiber-based foodware should go in the compost cart, not the trash! Food-soiled paper like paper cups, napkins, paper plates, pizza boxes and fiber “clamshell” takeout containers should be composted along with food scraps. Keeping these items out of the trash helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and landfilled waste.
