"In Jazz, improvisation isn't a matter of just making any ol' thing up. Jazz, like any language, has its own grammar and vocabulary. There's no right or wrong, just some choices that are better than others"

Covid-19: Where are we now?
Giving Hunger The Blues Festival Postponed
Keb' Mo', the events headline performer, recently announced cancelation of his five stop tour of Florida including our Giving Hunger The Blues Music Festival. His decision was based upon the worsening covid conditions in Florida and the state's constraints to control for vaccination of attendees. Reluctantly, the Jazz Club has postponed the event and is actively looking for a new date after January 1st. We will keep you posted.

Board to Reassess Season Calendar
Within the next two weeks the Jazz Club Board will decide if any other adjustments need to be made to our season that begins October 18th. This time will be used to monitor covid conditions and vaccination trends and to collaborate with other local arts organizations in making policy decisions.

What Do We Know Now?
Based upon Florida State Department of Health & CDC Reports:
  • The current daily outbreak of new covid cases in the Sarasota/Manatee Region is the worse it has been since the beginning in early 2020.
  • 98.5% of people 65 or older have received at least one vaccination dose and 83.3% are fully vaccinated in Sarasota County. The numbers are 88.6% and 77.9% in Manatee County.
  • The rate of people getting vaccinated has doubled over the last ten weeks
  • The overwhelming majority of hospitalized and ICU patients continue to be unvaccinated.

It Is My Hope That The Show Will Go On With Strict Requirements.
Here’s the bottom line:
  1. We don’t want anyone to get seriously sick because they attended a Jazz Club performance.
  2. Unvaccinated people are at a much greater risk of getting seriously ill.
  3. We don’t want anyone, including those that are vaccinated, to attend one of our events if they feel uncomfortable about their exposure to risk.

Visitors to the Jazz Club Office are Require to Wear Masks To Enter. Thank You.
