NETC 2v2 Warzone team debuts with a win
Northeastern Technical College left the battlefield with a win in their first outing in two versus two esports gameplay.
In Call of Duty: Warzone, NETC’s 2v2 team of Victor Barrington and David Hancock debuted with a tiebreaker win the best of three contest Oct. 6 against Penn Highlands Community College.
For 2v2 Warzone, the duos play on the same team as their opponent in a public “QUADS” lobby and compete against each other in an elimination race – the Duo with the most combined eliminations win.
The Trailblazers won 4-0 in Game 1 followed up with a narrow loss in Game 2 in Penn Highland’s favor being the last team alive in gameplay.
The final score ended with a 1-1 tie with NETC eking out the victory being the last team standing.
“A win is a win, but it wasn't pretty,” said NETC Esports Head Coach Tyler Nolan. “We were very lucky to win the Game 3 tie breaker as both players from Penn Highlands were eliminated just seconds before us.”
Better communication between Victor and David will be needed moving forward, Nolan said.
“They played fine together for their first time as a duo, but they also got separated from each other very often and would engage against enemy players without letting the other know,” Nolan said.
On Oct. 4, Trailblazer Billy Thompson continues searching for a win in Tier 1 play on Madden extending his record to 1-3 with a loss against undefeated Harrisburg Area Community College.
With three weeks left in the regular season, Thompson (1-3) needs a win to in order to make the NCJAA Esports playoffs, Nolan said.
On Overwatch, Iowa Western Community College overpowered NETC with a 3-0 victory in Tier 2 play in Week 2 in a repeat of last week performance as the team struggled gelling in gameplay.
“Similar to Call of Duty 4v4, this is the first time our team played a game together, and again, it showed,” Nolan said.
The NETC team of Luke Byrd, Ethan Jones, Jeremy Clark, Victor Barrington, and David Hancock, are making changes between matches with a modified practice schedule, Nolan said.
Trailblazer Nick Oakley extends his Super Smash Bros. Record to 0-4 going to the tie-breaker game in the best of five contest against Mott Community College in Week 3 of Tier 2 play.
Oakley made a comeback down 2-1 during the Oct. 5 match.
“With a 0-4 record, Nick needs a strong end to his season to have a chance to sneak into the playoffs,” Nolan said. “It won’t be easy, his Week 5 opponent from Lackawanna College is undefeated at 4-0.”
NETC athletes play under the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Northeastern Technical College athletes must maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average and 12 credit hours for the semester. Under the NJCAA rules, there are no age caps for participation.
