Today brought some welcome sunshine, although air temperatures remain cool in the upper 40s with wind chill on top of that. The wind was on the nose for the first half of the day. Thankfully, the engine cooperated and we motored until after lunch when we could slant off and have a pleasant sail past dramatic Cape Harrison and on to our destination.
We think we may have a handle on the engine coolant. We do suspect it has leaked at the radiator/pressure cap on the engine. Without going into detail, we think the expansion tank cap was part of the issue. Fingers crossed that all goes well.
Our afternoon sail was glorious over a sparkling sea and into Jeanette Bay about 30 miles north of Hamilton Inlet. It is a long, narrow bay with a low, treed shoreline and dramatic mountains beyond, fading into the distance, as seen in the photo above.
We did have great sailing (photo below) and also passed a couple dozen bergs. JJ has been happy to see them. They are always majestic and easier to deal with in the clear weather and sunshine of this day. I particularly liked some of the "close up" detail of the ice and have included two photos of detail below - somehow, the bergs always tantalize and amaze us. There is something special about sailing this stunning coast amid ice and sunshine.
Tomorrow’s weather calls for 20 knots out of the southeast - again on the nose. It may be slower going than today.
