Jeff Corwin's Focus on a City Part 6: Abu Dhabi

I'm embarrassed to say that my knowledge of the Arabian Peninsula geography is pretty fuzzy. In fact, when Jeff Corwin told me that he shot in Abu Dhabi for Rosewood Hotels, I had to go to my trusty research tool (Google maps) and see exactly where it is.

For all of you who, like me, admit to a less than accurate knowledge of the region, Abu Dhabi is the capital of United Arab Emirates and sits at the southern end of the Persian Gulf (click here to see a map). It's a port city with desert in its backyard and lush parks in front.

Okay enough of the geography lesson. Suffice it to say, that Jeff's photos of the city really capture the beauty and exoticism of the region. So much so, that I'm seriously thinking about going there for my next adventure destination.

Click on the photo below to see the range of situations that Jeff chose to shoot. Even though the location may be unfamiliar to a lot of us, Jeff's style of shooting interesting light, color and composition comes through loud and clear.

Apparently, Abu Dhabi is home to some very major sporting events. Since I'm a recent convert to fly fishing, I've been doing some research on the sports activities over there. So far, I found the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, and the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon.

Of those three, I am interested in exactly zero. But I'm still researching the fly fishing. I'll keep you posted.

All my best,
