October 2022 Jeffco CTC Update
|
|
Hello Jeffco CTC Community Board,
Happy October! We have several updates to share with you.
Transition Updates
The CTC Executive Committee, coalition members, CTC contractors, CTC staff and JCPH staff are continuing to work through the fiscal agent change process.
This includes:
-
Meetings and communication with CNDC, CDPHE, CDC, and the Community First Foundation to ensure that we are moving through all the processes needed to transition.
- Preparation of re-application materials required to transfer grants including budgets, narratives, and more.
-
THANK YOU to Amy Dillon, Amy Dyett, John Armstrong, and Jacki Paone who have done a particularly tremendous amount of work on these pieces.
- JCPH is preparing to present recommendations to the Board of Health tomorrow, Tuesday, 10/18, regarding the CDPHE COFP grant in order to sign the termination letter needed to submit with our application to transfer the funding to a new fiscal agent.
-
If you are interested in attending, Zoom information and an agenda are available here (and are linked under Events & Meetings): https://www.jeffco.us/3413/Board-of-Health
This transition has been the focus of CTC Executive Committee meetings, which are now held every Tuesday, from 3:30 - 4:30 pm. As always, these are open meetings available to any and all coalition members that would like to attend! Please reach out to Emily for these invites if you would like to join.
We will also provide additional updates at our next Community Board Meeting on October 27th from 8 - 9:30 am.
Voting
Thank you for voting in the poll about our coalition's voting process this year. Per our bylaws, coalition leadership members (Community Board Chair Co-chairs, Workgroup Chairs, any other positions as necessary) are appointed by a vote of the Active Board Members each September. Since this has been an unusual time for our coalition, we asked for feedback from our active coalition members on how they would like to proceed with elections given our transition process. Voters unanimously voted to keep our current officers through the immediate transition activities and host elections in January 2023.
How should the coalition proceed with elections this year?

Twelve Talks to Have with Teens
|
|
October: Talk with Teens about Marijuana
About 1 in 6 youth who use marijuana will become addicted, a number that increases the more the youth uses and the earlier they start. Use of marijuana during the teen years results in damage to the teen’s rapidly developing brain, and can result in impaired cognitive function.
Ask your teen about marijuana using questions that can’t be answered “yes” or “no.”
For example:
- Does anything worry you about marijuana use for teens your age?
- What about in terms of addiction or messing with brain development?

This project was created by the Jefferson County Communities That Care (aka Jeffco CTC) coalition, which is housed within Jefferson County Public Health. Jeffco CTC is funded through a Coalitions Organizing for Prevention grant from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and a Drug-Free Communities grant from the Centers for Disease Control.
