Donald W. Sorah is a Professor of Music at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, an Apple Distinguished Educator, Apple Learning Coach, and ISTE Certified Educator.
With over 25 years of experience in education, Donald is known for integrating technology in ways that prioritize creativity, curiosity, and student agency rather than compliance-driven instruction.
His teaching centers on authentic assessment and alternative grading, with students demonstrating learning through music composition, podcasting, video production, and collaborative textbook authorship. His work is grounded in equity, access, and the belief that students learn best when they are empowered to create rather than consume.
