Jeremiah's GPS

This Sunday we continue our journey through the book of Jeremiah. Our quest is driven by the desire to understand wisdom from ages past so that we can have hope for years to come. Today we search for wisdom for what to do when we are facing a crossroads. Each and every day there are options and opportunities set before us. How do we decide? Which path should we take as we continue our journey? We seek the God who will open the eyes of our hearts so that we can have vision for the journey. We gather together to worship a God who prepares, warns, and directs our paths. Let’s us focus the compass of our hearts towards the One whose directions never lead us astray.

This Sunday's scripture comes from Jeremiah 6:8-19

September 14th

Ask questions! Live the questions! “Living the Questions” is a 3-part video program

that introduces us to Progressive Christianity and gives the space for deep thought, doubt, and

asking questions that challenge the status quo. The program goes beyond the cliches of

Christianity that we see in the media or that we may have learned in church. We have already

explored the first two parts of this program. Now we will explore the third and final part, titled

“Call to Covenant.” This 7-week series covers topics such as A Kingdom Without Walls; Social

Justice: Realizing God’s Vision; Incarnation: Divinely Human; and Creative Transformation.

Join us on this exciting and challenging journey of faith Wednesdays at 7:00 pm on

ZOOM, beginning September 21. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t join us for parts 1 or 2 of Living

the Questions! Written materials for all seven sessions are available here. Led by Paul

Veteran's Ministry

Message From Max

Dear United Methodists of the Desert Southwest Conference,

In July, 1965, Methodist deaconess Lura Turner opened her first home for adults with developmentally disabilities in central Phoenix. In short order, the residents found a church home at Central United Methodist, mother church of Arizona’s Methodists. In 1972, Central’s United Methodist Women started a Bible class for the special needs men and women of Lura Turner Homes. It continues to this day, a testament to a half-century of Christ-centered spiritual service by women and men of faith to the Valley’s developmentally disabled community.

As with all non-profits, the past two and half years has hit Lura Turner Homes hard financially, especially since we had to cancel seven fundraisers. I thank God for the Methodist, Baptist and Catholic churches and women and men’s groups whose support has carried us through our most trying times. We are now resuming our much-needed fundraisers, just in time to build on Disability Awareness Sunday, October 16th. On Friday, September 23, we have our 27th annual Golf Tournament at Stone Creek Golf Course, and on Saturday, November 12th, we’ll hold our annual holiday boutique and craft fair at Cross Roads UMC, Phoenix. Detailed information on both events can be found on our website:

Want to arrange a tour of Lura Turner Homes, or a program for a large or small group? Please contact me at 602-943-4789 or And again, thank you one and all for your sustained support. I mean it when I say we would not be here without you.

God bless you all,

Max McQueen
