Jerold Lichty 1939 - 2018

Jerold (Jerry) Lichty, a life-time resident of Wadsworth, was born August 21, 1939, passed away on November 10, 2018.
Jerry graduated from Wadsworth City Schools in 1957, earned certification as a radiologic technologist from Carnegie Institute of Technology in Cleveland and a B.S.Ed. from Kent State University. He was employed by Wadsworth Hospital as an x-ray technician and taught in the Doylestown and Green Schools Districts where he was awarded the Martha Holden Jennings Excellence in Teaching Award. He held elected positions in the Doylestown Teachers Association and in the Ohio State Teachers' Association. In 1969 he met fellow-teacher, Suellen Tighe and married her in June 1971, thus beginning a lifetime love affair.
After retirement from teaching, Jerry and Sue worked at Hartville Travel and later bought Gordon Air Travel at the Akron Canton Airport. Although a struggling agency, they built Gordon Air Travel into a well-known travel business in the Akron area. After sale of the agency in1999, Jerry became a travel consultant for the Akron Canton Airport, then Marketing Director at Retirement First and the Shields Blice Co.
His volunteer-community services included Meals on Wheels, hours at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital, and arranging fund raisers Hospice of Wadsworth Rittman, where he received the Committee Volunteer Award. As a parishioner at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Wadsworth, he served on many committees, arranged programs, and very proudly served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at Mass.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ora Lichty and Ducie (Cuschleg) Stoll Lichty; many half brothers and sisters; and Mike and Martha Antro.
He leaves behind his dear wife, Suellen; plus his sisters, Fran Hanners, Cecelia Tighe Van Horn Roderick, Joan Tighe Schrader, James (Roberta) Tighe, Michael (Christine) Tighe, Mark (Terri) Tighe; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be at Hilliard-Rospert in Wadsworth with visiting hours Friday, November 16 (2 to 4 p.m.) and (6 to 8 p.m.) with funeral Mass, Saturday (9:30 a.m.) at Sacred Heart Church.
