A memorial service for Pastor Bruce Ewen, former Assistant to the Bishop, will take place on Thursday, October 3rd (11:00 AM) at Holy Trinity, Brant Beach. Former Bishop Roy Riley will serve as preacher.

 

A closing liturgy for the congregation of St. John Lutheran Church, after 149 years of ministry in Phillipsburg, took place on Sunday, August 18th.

 

Deacon Shirley Talluri received a synod council call as chaplain at Hackensack Meridian, Edison. Congregation calls were extended to Pastor Daniel Fields to serve at Grace, Perth Amboy, and Pastor Kara Song to serve at Calvary, Allendale. An ordination liturgy was held on August 10 at First, Montclair.

 

St. Mark, Oaklyn reconfigured Pastor Jay Berry's call to part-time. In partnership with Bridge of Peace, Camden and Pastor Giselle Coutinho, Seminarian Andy Jones was called to serve both congregations. An ordination liturgy is being planned. 

 

Pastor John Kleist, retired, has transferred to the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod. Retirement status has been granted to Pastor Dennis Olson, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Pastor Nancy Nardi, interim pastor, Abiding Love, Kendall Park. Pastor Carol Lindsay, retired, has been appointed to serve as interim pastor at Abiding Love.

 

Pastor Elaine Burkert (United Methodist Church) has been appointed as vice pastor of Zion, Saddle River. Pastor Joseph Schattauer-Paille resigned as pastor of Advent, Wyckoff, and transferred to the Minneapolis Area Synod. Pastor Michael Linderman is serving as vice pastor. Pastor Kimberly Vaughn resigned as pastor of Christ Our Redeemer, Jersey City, and granted on leave from call status. Pastor Dianne Lewis is serving as vice pastor. Pastor David Stoner, retired, will serve as vice pastor at Holy Trinity, East Orange.

 

Steven Sweet resigned as pastor and was removed from the clergy roster of the ELCA. Pastor Garry Squire (Metropolitan NY Synod) has been appointed interim pastor at Grace, River Edge.

 

Congratulations to the following pastors and congregations who recently celebrated installations: Pastor Daniel Fields, Grace, Perth Amboy, (September 8); Pastor Kara Song, Calvary, Allendale (September 8), and Pastor Dámaris Porsch-Ortega, St. Paul, Jersey City, (September 22).
