The New Orleans Jesters 2013 roster definitely has more of a New Orleans feel to it than it has in past years. However, if one looks past just the NOLA talent, they will see something more interesting... Jesuit standouts from 3 different decades.
The most recent graduate of Jesuit High School would be Philip Hicks. Hicks, now 18, graduated a year ago and was named Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year in 2012. It didn't take this 6'1" defender long to decide to pursue a soccer career. According to Coach Farrell, "Hicks is fast and a great player, and on his way to the University of Central Florida's soccer fields following this season with the Jesters."
Patrick Mullins is not only a former Jesuit graduate, the 6'1" forward played 3 years for the Jesuit High Blue Jays and led his team to state championships in 2006 and 2008. Jesuit went undefeated in the 2006 season and Patrick was named Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year and New Orleans Player of the Year in 2008. Mullins plays soccer for the University of Maryland, where as a freshman he was named Top Drawer Soccer All-Rookie of the Year. As stated by Coach Farrell, "Mullins just won the Hermann trophy and is definitely headed for Major League Soccer after this season with the Jesters."
P.J. Kee, who attended Jesuit High School in the 90s, went on to play midfielder for the New Orleans Shell Shockers (the city's former minor league soccer team). P.J., now 29, received his law degree (summa cum laude) from Tulane University Law School and obtained his undergraduate degrees in Philosophy and English from LSU. He served as a judicial clerk for the Louisiana Supreme Court and then joined a law firm in New York in 2010. P.J. is once again back in Louisiana after a 3-year break and playing midfielder for the Jesters. Coach Farrell says he has coached P.J. since he was 15 years old and "the guy can still play like he is a teenager!" |
