For your convenience we now have a textile bin at Fremont Township. Please drop off new or used clothing and textile donations of all kinds. The bin is in our parking lot at 22385 Route 60. These items will be reused, repurposed, or recycled.
Pillows, cushions, and rugs cannot be accepted.

In 2010 the Lake County Board approved a resolution to establish the 60% Recycling Task Force to realistically achieve a goal of a 60% recycle rate by 2020. In order to achieve this goal organics will need to be diverted out of the landfills through backyard or community composting. Watch and learn the do’s and don’ts of food scrap composting and what your options are for disposing of the food scraps.

If you have used towels, sheets or blankets that need to be recycled, please consider bringing them to Fremont Township at 22385 Route 60, Mundelein to be donated to local Animal Shelters and Rescues. You can drop them off in the bin on our front porch. This keeps them out of the landfill and puts them to good use.

We have recycled over 3000 pair of shoes since we started collecting shoes. There is a bin on our front porch at 22385 Route 60. We also accept eyeglasses in our lobby.

Two new forgivable loan assistance programs can help homeowners stabilize their mortgage once and for all. I-Refi provides up to $50,000 to eliminate negative equity caused by the economic downturn, while the Hardest Hit Fund offers up to $35,000 to homeowners working toward regaining employment and financial stability.
The Village of Round Lake Beach is teaming up with Affordable Housing Corporation of Lake County (a not-for-profit organization) to explain how the programs work, who is eligible, and how to apply. Participating lenders and housing counselors will be on hand to answer your questions. The program is free of charge and open to all Illinois homeowners. Mundelein CERT
is offering a 20-hour CERT
training program on October 21 (6 – 10 PM), October 22 (8 AM – 4 PM) and October 23 (8 AM – 4 PM) at Mundelein Fire Station 1, 1000 N. Midlothian Road. Enrollment and materials are free of charge and open to individuals 18 years of age or older, or those 16 and 17 years old with a signed permission slip and waiver from their parents. Upon completion of the course, participants will be invited to join the Mundelein CERT
team, althoug

Crop Hunger Walk to benefit local food pantries. The Barrington Area CROP Walk is an annual community hunger education fund raiser. This year, the Walk takes place throughout the village of Barrington, beginning at 120 N. Ela Street, Barrington, on Sunday, October 16. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the Walk will begin at 1:00.

Lakewood Forest Preserve

, the Farm Heritage Festival features hundreds of tractors, cars, engines and other farm machinery. Daily highlights include a tractor parade, sheep herding and threshing demonstrations, live music, wagon and barrel train rides, traditional crafts, rope making, a petting zoo, and much more. Join official raptor counters as they scan the skies and share their tips for identification. Last year, more than 3,000 raptors of 17 different species were identified. Help spot migrating raptors, and visit bird education stations set up along the trails to learn about raptor adaptations, the amazing world of woodpeckers, and waterfowl identification on Lake Michigan.
Hawkwatching in mid-October allows for the viewer to witness the largest amount of diversity of species with a backdrop of beautiful fall colors. The species, at their peak migration during this time, include sharp-shinned hawk and merlin, with red-tailed hawk and other large buteos. More Information

Complete just seven of the hikes between August 15 and November 30, and you'll earn a commemorative shield for your walking stick or a zipper pull (while supplies last). Use the
Travel Log
to record each hike. Every hiker needs their own. Bicycling or horseback riding do not count toward the program.
Let your canine companion join in the fun and complete the hikes with you. Record their name on your Travel Log and your dog will receive a commemorative dog tag (up to three dogs). You can even purchase an optional Hike Lake County dog collar to hang it on.
To receive your free dog tag, zipper pull or commemorative shield for your walking stick (while supplies last), submit your Travel Log online, bring it to any Hike Lake County Center, or mail it with a self-addressed stamped envelope to Lake County Forest Preserves, 1899 West Winchester Road, Libertyville, IL 60048 by January 31, 2017. Fremont Township is 35.80 square miles and 22,909.92 acres. The 2010 census had the population at 32,326 residents. Parts of eight municipalities including Mundelein, Hawthorn Woods, Wauconda, Grayslake, Libertyville, Long Grove, Round Lake and Round Lake Park are in Fremont Township. The Lake County Forest Preserve owns 17.87% of the land in Fremont, 43.04% is within a village and 56.96 is unincorporated.
